His real name is Lam Nguyen Pham, born in 1934. His passing has left much grief for his family and comedians in Ho Chi Minh City.

Artist Tung Lam has been away from the stage for a long time (due to 4 strokes), however every time we visit, he still has a burning dream of returning to the stage, bringing laughter to serve the public.

Around the 1950s, the trio of musicians Lam Phuong - artist Van Hung - artist Tung Lam often sang together on radio broadcasts. They were praised by the audience through songs such as: "Khuc ca ngay mua", "O me ly", "Thien thai", "Khuc nhac duoi trang", "Lang toi"...

After that, the trio of artists broke up, Tung Lam thought that in order to survive, he had to have his own way, so he chose to sing songs with a touch of humor. At that time, people called him "Little freak" Tung Lam. Because, at that time, Saigon's entertainment industry had 3 artists who were considered "freaks" by the audience: Tran Van Trach (younger brother of Professor Tran Van Khe), Bay Xe and Ba Van. In addition to singing, he also participated in film dubbing and was also a show producer. He was ranked in the "three great show producers" with musician Chau Ky and producer Duy Ngoc.

Around the 1960s, he founded the "Tung Lam Miscellaneous" band, which performed many genres: singing, dancing, comedy duets, and trained young singers of that time, inviting them to perform at the grand concerts he was the organizer of, such as: Trang Thanh Lan, Trang My Dung, Trang Kim Yen, Phuong Mai, Kim Tuyen...

Artist Tung Lam has been on stage for over 60 years. He is always proud to be nicknamed "little freak" by the audience because of his charming acting, singing, acting and acting talent in front of the camera. He has become a multi-talented artist, an actor, author, director and manager.

In his artistic career, he has made many beautiful marks on the comedy stage through the skits he composed himself, in which there are also roles that reflect life and incorporate profound educational messages.

After the country's reunification, he joined the Kim Cuong Drama Troupe and specialized in comedy roles with fate, specifically in plays such as "Sardina Leaves", "Under Two Shirts", "The Abyss of Height"... which were warmly received by the audience. For a time, he was the deputy of the Hau Giang Cultural Troupe, also in charge of staging. With his management talent, he brought in a lot of revenue for the troupe and was considered a "lucky manager".

When old age came, artist Tung Lam's health did not allow him to continue working, but when his health was stable, he still wanted to be a person on stage. He used to quietly enter the auditorium of the Workers' Theater, sit in the wings to watch young actors perform.

People's Artist Kim Cuong recalls: "I have many memories with artist Tung Lam because he was associated with the Kim Cuong Drama Troupe for a period. He was a hard-working learner, seeking new features in the profession and was well received by the public. Originally a talented singer and good at cheerleading, he combined comedy to enrich his singing and acting style."

Farewell artist Tung Lam. Comedy lovers will always remember his laughter!
