Yen Thuy salted shallots are a 3-star OCOP product.
Yen Thuy district currently has nearly 100 hectares of shallots, concentrated in Phu Lai commune. In order to increase the value of shallots, Phu Lai Agricultural Cooperative (Ro hamlet, Phu Lai commune, Yen Thuy district) has successfully built the brand of Yen Thuy salted shallots.
In 2022, the Cooperative's salted shallot products will meet the provincial 3-star OCOP standard. This will not only increase the value of shallot products but also help the Yen Thuy salted shallot brand reach further to markets inside and outside the province.
Recently, Yen Thuy salted shallots have been exported to the UK market. This is a good sign for the Cooperative's salted shallots.

Mr. Bui Van An, Director of Phu Lai Agricultural Cooperative, said: From 2020 to now, after being granted a trademark registration certificate by the Department of Intellectual Property, the area of scallions grown in the commune has been increasingly expanded.
To ensure that the product meets the requirements when sampling for analysis before export, the production process of pickled shallots is carried out to ensure absolute compliance with food hygiene and safety requirements, without using preservatives.
Each onion is carefully classified, selected, then processed, cleaned, fermented and bottled. The cooperative uses glass jars to preserve the product to keep the onion for a long time, retain its characteristic flavor and precious medicinal essences inside, and retain its crispness when eaten.
All products are labeled, coded, barcoded, and have traceability information printed on them from the packaging to the paper bag containing the product. For export products, the Cooperative packages them in jars that meet the specifications and requirements of the importing country, each jar weighs 390 grams.

Yen Thuy salted shallots reach out to the world
Ms. Bui Thi Xanh, Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Yen Thuy district, said: The recent export of shallots was the first shipment of processed agricultural products of the province to the UK market.
This is a positive signal, opening up a new direction for the district's typical products, promoting the implementation of crop restructuring towards commodity production. To accompany businesses and shallot production cooperatives in the area, the district continues to implement investment promotion programs, support and organize for businesses and cooperatives to participate in trade promotion programs and product promotion.
In addition, strengthen guidance and transfer of science and technology to improve production and business capacity for units and cooperatives, ensuring to meet requirements on quantity and quality of products not only for export products but also for consumption in the domestic market.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong, CEO of RYB Joint Stock Company, said: Before being exported, the importer as well as the company carefully selected the items from thousands of OCOP products produced by localities.
Yen Thuy salted shallots are a potential product in foreign markets, because they can be processed and preserved for a long time, can be used immediately, are produced from natural sources and have good effects on health. Therefore, they are suitable for the trends and needs of some current export markets.
From this first order, the company will coordinate with localities and production units to develop more markets and export orders if the products meet the needs of the UK market and develop more similar processed products with good quality and great potential.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Yen, Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, said: To prepare for the export shipment, including Yen Thuy salted shallots, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has coordinated with the People's Committee of Yen Thuy district to guide and support production facilities to standardize raw material areas, improve processing and packaging techniques to meet market requirements. Before packaging and shipping, product analysis samples all met food safety inspection standards according to EU and UK requirements.
Although the quantity is not much, this is a big step forward to help the province's OCOP products "set foot" in one of the most demanding export markets.
In the coming time, specialized units as well as the provincial agricultural sector will actively seek markets and connect with consumers to expand export markets and domestic consumption for high-quality fresh and processed agricultural products, including shallots.
