(CLO) A driver drove a truck into a crowd at a bus stop in central Israel on Sunday (October 27), killing one person and injuring more than two dozen others.
Police did not immediately confirm whether it was a targeted attack or an accident, although the incident occurred near the headquarters of the Mossad intelligence agency and other Israeli intelligence sites.

In a separate incident, Israeli soldiers shot dead a man they said tried to stab them during an “anti-terror” operation near Jerusalem, describing it as a “terrorist attack” on soldiers.
The incident left at least 29 people injured, some of them seriously. One of the injured later died in hospital.
According to initial police investigations, the truck driver also crashed into a bus that was stopping at the same station to pick up and drop off passengers. At the scene, police said civilians "shot and disabled the truck driver."
Paramedic Elior Yosef, who arrived at the scene after the crash, said he saw eight people “trapped under the truck”. He added that there were many other injured victims lying or walking near the truck.
The militant group Hamas issued a statement calling it a "heroic car ramming attack" and said it was carried out near "Mossad headquarters... in response to the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people".
Since the Gaza war began on October 7 last year, there have been numerous attacks in Israel by Palestinian militants. According to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures, at least 30 people, including Israeli soldiers, have been killed in such attacks in Israel.
Sunday's incidents came as Israel held Hebrew calendar ceremonies to commemorate the Hamas offensive on October 7, the event that sparked the current wars in Gaza and Lebanon.
