In 2025, students will take the high school graduation exam according to the new program with 4 subjects. Of which, 2 subjects are compulsory, including: Literature, Math and 2 elective subjects from the remaining subjects studied in grade 12, including: Foreign languages, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economic and Legal Education, Information Technology, Technology.
Literature exam is in essay format, the remaining subjects are in multiple choice format. Many universities have announced their enrollment plans for 2025.
Ho Chi Minh City National University organizes the competency assessment exam in a stable development direction, based on the foundation of the previous stage. The exam will continue to be implemented in the form of objective multiple-choice paper-based tests, organized simultaneously in many localities to create favorable conditions for candidates to participate.
However, the exam structure is adjusted to suit the 2018 general education program. Specifically, the structure still includes 3 parts, of which part 1 is Language Use; part 2 is Mathematics, logical thinking and data analysis; part 3 is Problem Solving.
Ho Chi Minh City National University will adjust the current test to focus mainly on problem solving. Candidates will be able to choose 3 out of 6 problem groups during the test.
Part 1: Using languages including Vietnamese and English, candidates need to do all questions in this part.
Part 2: Mathematics - Logic - Data Analysis includes Mathematics, Logical Thinking, Data Analysis and also requires candidates to do all the questions in this part.
Part 3: Problem Solving includes Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Economic and Legal Education. In this part, candidates choose to do questions in 3 out of 6 groups of fields. Since September 2023, the unit's team of experts has deployed the construction of a question bank matrix and sample exam papers according to the new orientation.
Thus, compared to the structure of the competency assessment test from 2024 and earlier, the structure of the test from 2025 will have two new points. First is the appearance of a new group of fields in the 2018 general education program related to economic and legal education. Second, candidates can choose the exam subjects instead of being required to answer all questions in part 3 like the old test. This adjustment will lead to changes in the admission methods of universities next year.
Speaking to VietNamNet reporter , Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, Director of the Center for Testing and Training Quality Assessment (Ho Chi Minh City National University), said that the university is preparing to announce the earliest official information about the exam and sample questions for capacity assessment from 2025.
The Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam is the basis for admission by member schools including: Social Sciences and Humanities, Polytechnic, Information Technology, Economics - Law, Health Sciences , International, An Giang, Natural Sciences and dozens of other universities.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Education will organize a specialized computer-based competency assessment exam but with a change in the question format. The exam results will become an independent admission method from 2025 onwards (instead of combining the exam scores with high school academic results in the same method as before).
The specialized competency assessment exam is conducted in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature and English. In 2026, the school will add History, Geography, Economic and Legal Education.
The assessment content will closely follow the 2018 General Education Program. Of which, the knowledge content of the 12th grade program accounts for about 70-80%, the rest is knowledge content of the 10th and 11th grade programs.
The specialized competency assessment exam according to the new structure from 2025 has many new points. Specifically, 2 new question formats are added: multiple-choice objective questions with more than 1 correct answer and the common data mining question format.
Currently, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education has announced the sample test for Math, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, including 40 questions divided into 3 parts. Part 1 includes 25 objective multiple choice questions divided into 2 different formats: objective multiple choice with 1 correct answer and objective multiple choice with more than 1 correct answer. Part 2 has 5 objective multiple choice questions using shared data and part 3 includes 10 fill-in-the-blank questions.
Literature will consist of 22 questions and be divided into 3 parts: multiple choice objective test questions, writing a short paragraph with 1 essay question, writing an essay with 1 essay question.
For English, the test structure remains the same, following the approach of the test format to assess competence from level 3 to level 5 according to the 6-level Foreign Language Competency Framework for Vietnam. The test materials are diverse, taken from many different fields. The assessment questions in each subject have different levels of difficulty in each section.
Nha Trang University admits students based on a combination of high school academic results and university academic ability assessment results.
High School Learning Outcomes: For each major or training field of the school, candidates must study a certain number of subjects in high school according to regulations. The learning outcomes of these subjects must meet the minimum requirements announced by the school every year.
University learning capacity assessment results: For each major and training major of the school, candidates must also participate in the university learning capacity assessment. The capacity assessment focuses on Math ability (mathematics, logical reasoning and data processing); Language (including Vietnamese and English); Science (problem solving).
For the Science section, candidates can choose a range corresponding to the subjects studied in high school and suitable for the training industry and major according to school regulations.
The Vietnamese-German University still maintains the TestAS test. Accordingly, TestAS is a test that assesses thinking ability, not simply fixed knowledge. TestAS has an open approach and can be integrated with a wide range of general education programs around the world.
The 2018 general education program is considered to be closer to TestAS than the old program. Therefore, using the results of this test to select new students to enter the school will not be an obstacle.
