Over the past two days, many Nam Thang electric taxi drivers in Ca Mau have gone on strike to protest the company's policies, which they consider unsatisfactory.

On January 1, Mr. Pham Hoang Nho - a driver of Bao Gia Ca Mau Joint Stock Company (Nam Thang Ca Mau electric taxi) - said that he and about 100 other people went on strike and waited for other policies from the company after the director of this electric car company held a meeting but after only about 15 minutes, he banged on the table and requested to disperse.

In a 37-second clip posted on social media, a lawyer explains to company employees about their rights, then suddenly Mr. Ho Hoang Anh - director of Bao Gia Ca Mau Joint Stock Company - stands up and bangs on the table, demanding "I'm here to say this, if you don't do it, we'll be dismissed". Immediately, more than 100 people attending the company meeting left because of the director's actions.

The drivers said the reason they went on strike on New Year’s Day was because the company had introduced new policies that pressured employees. Among them were policies that forced drivers to pay for charging electric vehicles, while previously promising employees that the company would fully cover this cost.

In addition, contracted employees said that there were many unreasonable points in the agreement compared to reality. Although the vehicle was required to be serviced and maintained every 12,000 km, many drivers had to drive more than double the prescribed number of km but still could not get their vehicles serviced, and some tires were even worn out and of poor quality.

Many drivers also said that the company set a revenue target of 28 million VND for drivers to receive a salary of 8 million VND/month, which is too much for a small province like Ca Mau, which has nearly 200 electric cars and many other taxi companies. The high revenue target makes many drivers have to work day and night to hope to achieve it, which makes driving unsafe. Some employees said that when signing the contract, it mentioned insurance for employees, but in reality, some people have been working for many months and have not been covered by insurance.

In addition, taxi drivers are also upset that many vehicles have not been purchased two-way auto insurance by the company, forcing the driver to take responsibility in the event of an accident.

Tuoi Tre Online contacted Mr. Ho Hoang Anh - director of Bao Gia Ca Mau Joint Stock Company (the person banging on the table) - and was told that "he is on a business trip, not at home, there is no problem, it is just some agitators, he is out of the province, not knowing when he will return so he cannot meet him".
