Clean production

Thanks to its quick grasp of innovations and advances in production, the Cam Van Commune Agricultural Service Cooperative (Cam Giang) has always been “healthy” and has become a model cooperative in the province. The secret to achieving this result is that the cooperative always aims for the benefit of consumers. Production according to VietGAP processes has long been familiar to members of the cooperative.

Cam Van Commune Agricultural Service Cooperative currently has 70 hectares of vegetables that have been certified for production according to VietGAP standards and 33 hectares are awaiting appraisal. In addition, the cooperative has built 3 carrot growing areas that meet export standards with an area of over 30 hectares. The cooperative is proposing to build 70 hectares of fish farming according to VietGAP.

Thanks to clean production, the cooperative's agricultural products are purchased by businesses, and the output is more stable and favorable. Mr. Nguyen Van Mich, Director of Cam Van Commune Agricultural Service Cooperative, said: "Previously, farmers in the commune did their own thing, quality was not controlled, so consumption was unstable. Since production has been according to standards, ensuring conditions of origin and inspection, there is no need to worry about output. Thanks to that, farmers are more responsible in production, and consumers are more secure and confident when using agricultural products."

Mr. Nguyen Van Tien strictly applies clean and safe production processes to produce quality agricultural products.

After a period of living and working in Japan, in 2019, Mr. Nguyen Van Tien in Tu Cuong commune (Thanh Mien) returned to his hometown, determined to start a business in the agricultural sector. Having learned a lot of experience in farming in other countries, Mr. Tien is always concerned about the quality of agricultural products and food used daily is still "uncontrolled". This not only affects the psychology and health of consumers but also damages the reputation of the producers themselves. Therefore, in the process of building a farm, Mr. Tien always puts the quality of agricultural products first.

The melons and cucumbers that Mr. Tien supplies to the market all have traceability stamps. With just one QR code scan, consumers can know full information about the agricultural products from the origin of the seedlings, cultivation conditions to the quality of the products after harvest. "Thanks to the strict implementation of quality management requirements, my agricultural products are in high demand. Not only are they sold to businesses exporting to supermarkets and convenience stores, but many people in and outside the province also come directly to the farm to buy them for use," Mr. Tien informed.

Inevitable trend

Hai Duong agricultural products are fully packaged and labeled before being supplied to the market.

Agricultural products and food are the raw materials for making daily food and drinks. Only when the raw materials are guaranteed will they be safe and good for the health of consumers. As society develops, people are more demanding in choosing food. Therefore, producing clean agricultural products is an inevitable trend, not only ensuring the health of consumers but also a solution for the sustainable development of the agricultural sector.

In recent years, instead of buying food at traditional markets, Ms. Vu Thi Chi in Tu Minh ward (Hai Duong city) has a habit of going to supermarkets and convenience stores to choose. According to Ms. Chi, her family has both elderly and children, so she is very careful about what she eats. The food in the supermarket has full information, so Ms. Chi is more secure and confident. "Through the information on the labels, I know that many agricultural products and foods from Hai Duong are sold in supermarkets. This shows that farmers in the province are producing more and more professionally and systematically. Therefore, I always support the products of my hometown," Ms. Chi said.

Many people choose to buy agricultural products and food in supermarkets to ensure good quality and food hygiene and safety.

Hai Duong currently has about 15,500 hectares of vegetables and fruits produced according to VietGAP standards. The whole province has more than 400 hectares of organic farming. Hai Duong has also built hundreds of export growing area codes. In livestock farming, the province has more than 520 facilities that meet the criteria for high-tech production. More than 1,000 hectares of VietGAP aquaculture and "floating pond" farming ensure a circulating water source. Hai Duong is also one of the leading localities in the country in building greenhouses, net houses, and applying water-saving irrigation to serve agricultural production. This is evidence that farmers in the province have made very positive changes in production for the health of consumers as well as their own long-term interests.

Being certified for standard production is a competitive advantage for farmers in the province to promote production and business activities. However, there are still some barriers that prevent clean agricultural products from establishing a solid foothold. Ms. Pham Thi May in Cam Hoang commune (Cam Giang) is one of the few people who boldly applied VietGAP production in pig farming early. However, after nearly 10 years of implementation, Ms. May realized that pigs raised according to VietGAP were sometimes still equated with mass products. Therefore, she proposed that there should be a mechanism to support and protect the rights of farmers who produce cleanly.

Farmers produce clean, safe products for the health of consumers and also protect themselves. Compliance with regulations on ensuring food safety in production is the foundation for the stable, long-term development of the agricultural sector.
