President Joe Biden decides not to pursue re-election bid
News.com.au reported on July 21 that US President Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from his re-election campaign was so sudden that many White House staff only learned of it when they checked social media.
“We all know it when we read social media X. None of us understand what’s going on,” added one Democrat.
Biden stops running for re-election
The surprise was also shown in the fact that the Biden-Harris campaign, the ticket between Mr. Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, was still sending emails calling for donations to "Joe and Kamala" 8 minutes after Mr. Biden announced his withdrawal.
Biden’s Delaware campaign staff also worked until the announcement. “I don’t think anyone in Delaware knew,” said a state official.
WIRED magazine reported that Biden's re-election campaign staff did not receive any official information about Biden dropping out of the race until nearly 20 minutes after the announcement appeared on social media.
"Team, sharing with you the letter from President Biden that was just released. We will have more information this afternoon. Please look out for an invitation to join the all-staff call. We are grateful to be a part of this team with all of you. More information will be coming," according to the email sent to staff by Biden campaign managers O'Malley Dillon and Julie Chavez Rodriguez.
The email was sent at 2:03 p.m. local time, with a link to a statement posted by Mr. Biden on social network X 17 minutes earlier.
