Passengers flying from major cities in Vietnam such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, etc. to many major cities in Southeast Asia such as Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Penang, Chiang Mai, etc.

Grasping this information, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh (living in District 12, Ho Chi Minh City) decided to buy tickets for his family of 6 to travel to Thailand in the summer of 2025. According to Mr. Khanh, every summer his family organizes a trip, last summer his family really wanted to go to Hanoi - Ha Long, but due to the high price of domestic airfares in the summer, they postponed it until the summer of 2025 when they have better finances to go.

"However, when I learned that the airfare to Thailand in the summer of 2025 is 0 VND, if I pay all taxes and fees, it will only be 90 USD/round-trip ticket (equivalent to 2.5 million VND/round-trip ticket - PV), which is too cheap, so I decided to buy 6 tickets for the whole family to go at the end of June 2025" - Mr. Khanh said.

Similar to Mr. Khanh, when learning about this promotion, Ms. Pham Thi Hanh's family (living in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City) also decided to buy 4 pairs of round-trip tickets to Malaysia in July 2025. Ms. Hanh also invited a friend's family to go with her and this family also bought 5 round-trip tickets to go at the same time as Ms. Hanh.

"Domestic airlines often offer promotional fares, but only during the low season, not during the peak summer season. Meanwhile, foreign airlines often offer 0 VND fares, but they fly during the peak summer season, so my family bought tickets right away to prepare for next year's summer trip," said Ms. Hanh.

Mr. Do Van Thuc - Deputy Director of Dat Viet Tour said that summer 2024 air travel has recently decreased by 60-70% of customers, due to high domestic airfares. According to Mr. Thuc, due to high airfares, domestic tour prices are also high, so many customers switched to traveling abroad this past summer instead of choosing to travel domestically.

"The price of a 5-day tour to Hanoi last summer was about 10 million VND, while a 6-day tour to Thailand was only over 6 million VND, so many customers who originally planned to go to Hanoi switched to Thailand. Because customers are willing to go abroad to play, but the cost is lower than traveling domestically, they are willing to change their choice. Last summer 2024, the company's international tours, especially to Southeast Asian countries, were all full, while tours to Ha Long, Phu Quoc, Quy Nhon, etc. by air decreased by 70% of customers. This decrease may repeat in the summer of 2025, because in the minds of many people, flying in the summer will cause high airfares, so they are hesitant," said Mr. Thuc.

Dat Viet Tour leaders shared more information, many people who travel far in the summer mainly choose to travel by air, while in the summer domestic airfares are always as high as during holidays, even during the beginning of the week. Therefore, in the summer, if any destination has good airfares, it will be the first choice of tourists.

"Not only airlines in Southeast Asia, many low-cost Chinese airlines are also opening flights to Vietnam with very competitive prices. This means that in the summer of 2025, more Vietnamese tourists will choose to travel internationally, so domestic air travel next summer will be at risk of repeating the decline in customers as much as in the summer of 2024," said Mr. Thuc.
