Bee venom harms all organs in the body, so when stung by a bee, the patient needs to be treated early at a primary health facility. Severe cases must be transferred to a higher level for timely intervention.
Bach Mai Hospital has just recommended measures to prevent dangerous complications caused by bee stings, as the hospital recently received many cases of bee stings requiring emergency treatment in critical condition.
According to Dr. Nguyen Trung Nguyen, Director of the Poison Control Center, Bach Mai Hospital, among the patients who were stung by bees and had to be hospitalized, there was a female patient named LTH (90 years old, from Y Yen, Nam Dinh) who was brought to the emergency room on the night of September 2 with muscle damage, liver damage, blood clotting disorder, thrombocytopenia, kidney failure, and heart failure. This elderly female patient is being treated intensively, undergoing blood filtration, detoxification, and her health is gradually recovering.

The second case is patient NTN (61 years old in Dong Anh, Hanoi) who was walking in the yard when he was attacked by a swarm of bees and was stung nearly 300 times. Patient NTN was taken to the hospital by his family in a state of poisoning, with ruptured red blood cells and damaged eyes. Because he was taken to the hospital early and treated actively (plasma exchange, continuous blood filtration, ventilator, etc.), after 1 week of treatment, patient NTN has passed the critical stage and is gradually recovering.
Dr. Nguyen Trung Nguyen added that in our country, especially in the North, the number of patients being stung by bees and hospitalized increases sharply in the fall with many types of bees containing toxins such as hornets, hornets, and hornets. Bee venom is harmful to all organs in the body, so when stung by a bee, the patient needs to be treated early and actively at the grassroots medical facility. Severe cases need to be transferred to a higher level for timely intervention. It should be noted that after being stung by a bee, people should drink enough water, especially water containing minerals, salts, oresol, and urgently go to the grassroots medical facility.
“It is very important to replenish salt and water for the victim immediately after being stung by a bee. Active treatment at the lower level by infusing enough fluids and actively diuresis is a vital factor to save the patient's life and limit life-threatening injuries,” Dr. Nguyen Trung Nguyen emphasized.
