The University of Natural Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University) has just announced information about the expected subject combinations according to the admission method using the results of the 2025 high school graduation exam.
Many majors consider up to 17 subject combinations.
Accordingly, this year the school will enroll 32 full-time undergraduate majors with a total of 4,455 students, an increase of 195 students compared to last year. In 2024, the school will enroll 4,260 students for 29 majors/groups of majors.
Notably, the number of subject combinations for admission this year has increased dramatically with 6 - 17 combinations. The majors that are considered for admission include: environmental science, environmental science (English-enhanced program), environmental resource management, and environmental engineering technology. While last year the school considered admission with 9 combinations, each major only used a maximum of 4 combinations.
This year, there are many majors in the fields of natural sciences, life sciences, resource management and environmental protection, engineering, and technical technology with very diverse subject combinations for admission. In particular, in the admission combinations for these majors, there are many subjects: literature, geography, history, economic and legal education, etc.
The school also requires candidates to choose a combination of English subjects registered with the school to use TOEFL/IELTS certificates to convert scores to a 10-point scale as the admission score for this subject.

Adjusting subject combinations is an innovation in training thinking.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , MSc. Hoang Thanh Tu - Deputy Head of Information and Communications Department, University of Natural Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University) - explained that in order to respond to changes in the 2025 high school graduation exam regulations and new admission regulations, the school has decided to add more subject combinations for admission to help candidates easily choose subject combinations that suit their abilities and increase their chances of admission.
These adjustments are based on the results of research on enrollment data over many years, as well as the actual implementation of the 2018 general education program in schools.
During the process of reviewing and selecting subject combinations for admission, relevant faculties and professional departments have also considered the learner capacity requirements of the major.
"We see that introducing new subjects such as literature, history, geography and other subjects related to natural science knowledge is an innovation in training thinking, in line with modern educational trends, especially in training fields that are interdisciplinary and highly applicable in life.
For example, oceanography is not only concerned with the physical and chemical processes in the ocean, but also with the management of marine resources, environmental protection and adaptation to climate change. These issues are closely linked to the historical development of coastal areas, local community culture and socio-economic policies.
Similarly, environmental science requires students to understand historical and geographical contexts to assess environmental impacts and propose sustainable solutions...", Ms. Tu shared.
