Kaspersky shares tips to boost security for small and medium-sized businesses after blocking nearly 400% more malware in the first half of 2023 compared to the first half of 2022.
Beware of Malware Attacks Targeting Small and Medium Businesses |
Global cybersecurity company Kaspersky has blocked four times as many malware attacks targeting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Southeast Asia in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year.
Specifically, Kaspersky solutions prevented a total of 44,022 malware attacks targeting SMEs in the region from January to June 2023, up 364% compared to 9,482 attacks in the same period in 2022.
According to Kaspersky’s latest Cyber Resilience Report, by 2022, 4 in 10 employers admit that a cybersecurity incident will be a major crisis for their business, rather than a drop in sales or a natural disaster. Based on the survey results, a cybersecurity crisis will also be the second most difficult type of crisis to deal with, after a sharp drop in sales.
Kaspersky experts recommend that SMEs have a comprehensive defense concept that equips, informs and guides security teams in the fight against the most sophisticated and targeted cyberattacks, such as the Kaspersky Extended Detection and Response (XDR) platform.
“SMEs are the backbone of the Southeast Asian economy, accounting for nearly half of the region’s GDP, contributing to 85% of employment and accounting for more than 90% of all businesses in Southeast Asia. To meet the ever-changing needs of customers, businesses need to embrace digitalization, although most businesses are neglecting cybersecurity,” said Yeo Siang Tiong, General Manager for Kaspersky Southeast Asia.
