Welcoming the first working visit to Ho Chi Minh City of the Indian Foreign Minister, Mr. Nguyen Van Nen shared good memories of the working trip and inauguration of the statue of President Ho Chi Minh in India last year.

Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen expressed his pride in seeing that, over the past 50 years, despite the volatile and complicated world situation, the traditional friendship between Vietnam and India, founded by President Ho Chi Minh and Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and nurtured by generations of leaders and people of the two countries, has been continuously consolidated and developed.

Congratulating the results of the 18th meeting of the Vietnam-India Joint Commission co-chaired by Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar recently held in Hanoi, Mr. Nguyen Van Nen said that Ho Chi Minh City has been implementing cooperative activities with India in the spirit agreed by the leaders of the two countries, including the inauguration of the statue of Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi in the city.

Ho Chi Minh City will also actively contribute to the early achievement of the target of 20 billion USD in two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and India, which was recently approved by the Joint Committee of the two countries.

Mr. Nguyen Van Nen said that over the years, the relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and India has been continuously strengthened and developed in the fields of trade cooperation, investment, and people-to-people exchange.

However, Ho Chi Minh City sees that the potential for cooperation with Indian partners is still very large and hopes that India will continue to create conditions for businesses of both sides to meet, seek opportunities, and promote cooperation in areas of strength such as trade, tourism, science - technology, education, etc. to develop cooperation in these areas commensurate with the potential and desires of both sides.

Thanking the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City for taking the time to meet him, Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar shared his good impressions of his first visit and work in the city and informed about the results of the 18th Meeting of the Vietnam-India Joint Commission held in Hanoi recently, contributing to further promoting cooperation between the two countries.

India and Vietnam are both striving to overcome difficulties and challenges in each country, but together they want to promote cooperative relations and ensure regional security interests for peace and stability.

Acknowledging the positive developments in economic cooperation between the two countries, the Indian Foreign Minister appreciated the economic development of Ho Chi Minh City for Vietnam as well as the city's role in promoting tourism, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar thanked the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City for supporting and facilitating the activities of the Indian Consulate General in the city; thanked the city for placing a statue of Mahatma Gandhi - the father of the Indian nation - in the central park, demonstrating the city's concern and good feelings towards the Indian people.

Thanking the Ho Chi Minh City leaders for their suggestions for cooperation, the Indian Foreign Minister expressed his desire to cooperate with the city to further promote economic, trade and investment relations, especially to strengthen cooperation between businesses of the two sides; at the same time, he said that many Indian businesses want to learn about and cooperate with the city in its strengths such as pharmaceuticals and infrastructure construction.

During his visit and working in the city, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar will attend the inauguration ceremony of the statue of leader Mahatma Gandhi at Tao Dan Park and attend the welcoming ceremony for an Indian naval ship on a friendly visit to Ho Chi Minh City.
