The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the woman who died in the incident, named Tuyet Nguyen, jumped onto the tracks at 3:30 p.m. on July 9 (local time) to pick up a slipper she had dropped, and was unable to get back on when the train arrived. The accident happened at Punchbowl Station in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
“The 52-year-old woman jumped onto the tracks at Punchbowl Station to retrieve something she had dropped, but was unable to climb back on as the train entered the station. NSW Ambulance and Emergency Services attended the scene and performed CPR, but she died,” Australian police said.
Australian police later said their officers had interviewed several witnesses at the scene and collected security camera footage from the station “as part of the investigation”.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the tragic incident caused the railway system at Punchbowl station to stop operating, and many passengers were forced to travel by other means of transport.
