According to the Japanese Defense Ministry, Chinese and Russian bombers joined two Chinese fighter jets in the above-mentioned waters.
Japan's Defense Ministry added that the country's Air Self-Defense Force had scrambled fighter jets to counter four Chinese and Russian bombers.
Although Japan's airspace was not violated, the Japanese Defense Ministry conveyed its deep concerns to China and Russia through diplomatic channels, viewing the move as a clear show of force.

In addition, the South Korean military confirmed on June 6 that four Chinese military aircraft and four Russian aircraft flew into the Korean Air Defense Identification Zone (KADIZ) without prior notice on the same day, forcing the South Korean Air Force to dispatch fighter jets to respond, according to Yonhap News Agency.
There is no information yet on the reaction of China and Russia to the statements of Japan and South Korea.
Earlier, China's Defense Ministry announced that it had conducted a joint air patrol with Russia on June 6 over the East China Sea and the waters between Japan and the Korean Peninsula, according to Reuters. The Chinese Defense Ministry said the new patrol was part of the two countries' annual military cooperation plan.
This is the sixth joint patrol between the Russian and Chinese militaries in the region since 2019. During a patrol in May 2022, Chinese and Russian fighter jets came close to Japanese airspace as Tokyo hosted a Quad summit with the leaders of the United States, India and Australia, raising alarm in Japan, although China insisted the flights were not aimed at a third party, according to Reuters.
