The software was created to ease the burden on companies of creating instructional videos for foreign workers, amid the growing number of foreigners working in Japan.
Teachme AI can create tutorial videos from raw footage in a fraction of the time, cutting editing time by more than 90%, with footage automatically divided into chapters with subtitles and text explanations. The software can produce content in languages such as Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Bengali.
Studist Corp President Satoshi Suzuki said the videos are useful in helping workers learn work procedures, and stressed the importance of training foreign employees.
According to Japanese government data, the number of foreign workers in Japan reached 2 million for the first time at the end of October 2023.
Last month, Japan's parliament enacted a revised law to replace a controversial foreign trainee program with a new system that encourages foreign workers to stay in the country longer.
During a demonstration at a butcher shop in Ageo, Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo, the software created a 30-minute video showing how to package meat in Thai. The video took about 15 minutes to produce.
"I was surprised to see how quickly the instructional video was produced," said Yumi Eguchi, an executive at wholesaler Sc Meat Co.
Meanwhile, Wandee Sriprom - a 42-year-old worker from Thailand - shared: "Thanks to the Thai subtitles, I can easily understand what I need to do."
