The Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) and the Japan Tourism Association have just launched a policy package to encourage Japanese people to travel abroad with 24 selected destinations, including Vietnam.

All border control restrictions in Japan were lifted on May 8, 2023, when the country downgraded the Covid-19 epidemic to Level 5 under the Infectious Disease Control Law, the same level as seasonal flu.
Japan expects about 20 million Japanese people to travel abroad by 2024, equivalent to pre-pandemic levels.
JTA also announced 24 destinations in the Foreign Tourism Promotion Policy Package, including: China, Hong Kong (China), Taiwan (China), South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Canada, USA, Hawaii (USA), Guam, Mexico, Spain, Finland, France, UK, Germany, Italy, Türkiye and Australia.
During the 2015-2019 period, Japanese visitors to Vietnam grew steadily, reaching an average of 9.1% per year. In 2019, there were 951,000 Japanese visitors to Vietnam. After opening international tourism (March 5, 2022), Vietnam welcomed 174,700 Japanese visitors (in 2022) and 204,000 in the first 5 months of 2023. |
