Although he is a “desk” worker, Do Van Son is always passionate about doing something useful for the unit to reduce costs and efforts of soldiers in the process of repairing and maintaining weapons, equipment, techniques, and motorbikes. Starting from a soldier, he understands the hardships of his comrades; moreover, during the working process, Son always wants to change, do things his own way to bring high results, not follow the old ways and experiences. Therefore, in addition to doing professional work, perfecting and consolidating the system of books and forms, he spends a lot of time during breaks and holidays to research and find innovative solutions to improve techniques.
Every day, Do Van Son witnessed soldiers maintaining and repairing many types of machinery and equipment such as: cars, generators, starters, water pumps, shaft bearings, etc., while they were mainly done manually, using hand clamps to disassemble and assemble, which took a lot of time and effort. When encountering rusty, stuck, and oxidized bearings for a long time, it was very difficult to disassemble them. Sometimes, they had to use a hammer to hammer and knock, causing deformation and dents in the bearings, wasting time during exploitation and use. Faced with this situation, Do Van Son struggled, researched and wrote a draft of the topic and created the "Bearing Disassembly and Assembly Device". This initiative was applied very effectively by soldiers of the K5 Warehouse into practical work, and was selected by the commander to participate in the 7th Military Region Technical Innovation Contest and won the B prize.
In addition, Do Van Son also has initiatives and topics that have been recognized and rewarded by superiors such as: "Oil pumping equipment for axles and gearboxes of cars"; "Pneumatic oil pumping and suction equipment used in the storage of TTG vehicles and motorbikes"; "URAL-375, GAZ-66 total brake inspection equipment"... With outstanding achievements in work and initiatives, technical improvements, from 2018 to present, Do Van Son has been elected as a grassroots Emulation Fighter 4 times, once as an Army-wide Emulation Fighter; won the Creative Youth Award in the Army and many certificates of merit, advanced soldier.
Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Van Chung, Party Secretary and Political Commissar of Warehouse K5 commented: “Captain Do Van Son is an exemplary soldier and union member, working responsibly, enthusiastically and creatively, always being the core of the unit's emulation movements. No matter how difficult and complicated the tasks are, when assigned, Comrade Son always completes them well and excellently; is trusted by the Party Committee and commanders, and loved by his teammates”.
