Boosting pride in the medical profession.

Việt NamViệt Nam27/02/2025

Today marks the 70th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day (February 27, 1955 - February 27, 2025). In the spirit of joy and pride of the medical profession, the entire Party and people extend their best wishes and profound gratitude to generations of doctors who have been and continue to work tirelessly to care for the health of the people.

Doctors at the Provincial General Hospital are providing free medical examinations to the public.

As President Ho Chi Minh instructed exactly 70 years ago: "...Patients entrust their lives to you. The government entrusts you with the task of treating illnesses and maintaining the health of our people. This is a very glorious task...". For the past 70 years, imbued with Uncle Ho's teaching, "A good doctor must be like a loving mother," throughout the country's history, the team of doctors and medical staff have always upheld medical ethics, strived to overcome difficulties, and excellently fulfilled their nhiệm vụ of protecting, caring for, and improving the health of the people. From a poor and backward country where the average life expectancy was only 45 years (in the 1960s), after more than six decades, the average life expectancy of Vietnamese people has now increased to 74.5 years, higher than many countries with similar per capita income levels. This achievement is thanks to the continuous development of the healthcare system and the dedication and commitment of the healthcare staff.

Along with the national healthcare sector, over the past 70 years, Thai Binh's healthcare sector has continuously developed, contributing to the province's socio -economic development and the achievements of national medicine. From a small team of a few hundred staff members and meager equipment, Thai Binh's healthcare sector has grown significantly in both personnel and technical infrastructure to meet the increasingly high demands for healthcare from the people. Currently, Thai Binh is one of the provinces with a highly qualified and skilled healthcare workforce, and its preventive medicine and diagnostic and treatment fields are among the leading provinces in the region.

Despite achieving many glorious accomplishments, the healthcare sector is currently facing numerous difficulties and challenges. These include the unpredictable nature of emerging infectious diseases, the increasing prevalence of non-communicable diseases among younger people, and the fact that while life expectancy is high, the number of years lived in good health is low. This reality demands a shift in thinking within the healthcare sector. Healthcare should not only focus on diagnosing and treating patients, but more importantly, on caring for the health of the population to reduce disease, improve health, and extend life expectancy. Furthermore, in response to the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the development of modern medicine, healthcare units and medical staff, in addition to performing their professional duties well and upholding medical ethics, need to be more proactive and enthusiastic in scientific research, innovation, and promoting digital transformation. They should contribute positively to the development of the industry, helping to build a modern medical system that inherits the advantages of traditional medicine, a healthcare system suitable to the needs of our people, as envisioned by President Ho Chi Minh 70 years ago.

With deep emotion and pride, looking back on the past 70 years, we deeply appreciate and remember the contributions of the medical professionals who dedicated their lives, youth, blood, and bones to the independence and freedom of the nation. These are the people who sacrificed themselves in peacetime on the silent battlefield, fighting for the lives, health, and happiness of the people. The entire Party and the entire nation believe that with the wisdom of the medical profession and the loving hearts of compassionate mothers, the Vietnamese medical team will continue to conquer new heights, write another heroic epic in the country's renewal process, improve the health and quality of life for the people, meet the demands of human resource development, and nurture a generation of Vietnamese people who are physically healthy, spiritually beautiful, and intellectually brilliant, united in moving into a new era and building a strong and prosperous Vietnam.

Peace
