(HBĐT) - In response to the 2023 Humanitarian Month launched by the Provincial Red Cross Society with the theme "Joining forces to build a compassionate community," Red Cross branches at all levels in the province, along with businesses, organizations, and philanthropists, have organized many practical, humane, and meaningful activities for the poor, disadvantaged, and vulnerable in society, creating a strong ripple effect in the community.
The Provincial Red Cross Society presented gifts to child patients at the Provincial General Hospital.
Comrade Bui Quoc Viet, Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society, said: With the theme "Joining forces to build a compassionate community," this year's Humanitarian Month is the peak month of the year for all levels of the Provincial Red Cross Society to simultaneously implement activities to promote, mobilize resources, and build the society's fund to support vulnerable groups in society, contributing to building a safe community full of love, a society rich in compassion and happiness. Through humanitarian activities, beneficiary households can feel the humanistic values and meaning that the Red Cross Society and the community give. At the same time, it continues to strongly spread to all levels of people and philanthropists to participate and cooperate.
To strengthen communication efforts before and during the Humanitarian Month, the Provincial Red Cross Society, in coordination with Hoa Binh Newspaper and the Provincial Radio and Television Station, intensified the dissemination of information about humanitarian and charitable programs; and promoted these activities on the websites and fanpages of all levels of the Society. During the peak period from May 8th to 19th, the Society focused on publicizing the purpose, significance, and activities of the Humanitarian Month, thereby mobilizing resources from organizations, individuals, and philanthropists to participate in supporting these efforts.
Not only were valuable resources mobilized and promptly donated to the poor and sick, but the activities during Humanitarian Month also contributed to arousing, encouraging, promoting, and spreading the spirit of mutual support and compassion among all strata of the population. In May, Red Cross branches at all levels organized the repair, construction, and handover of many "Red Cross" houses; donated gifts and essential goods to those in particularly difficult circumstances; assisted those suffering from serious illnesses and poor students in overcoming difficulties; and provided free medical examinations and medicine to people in remote areas. The total value of humanitarian activities reached over 2.7 billion VND, benefiting nearly 4,200 people. Specifically, Red Cross branches supported the repair and construction of 8 houses, worth 480 million VND; and donated 8 cows to 8 families through the "Cow Bank" program in the districts of Mai Chau, Kim Boi, Lac Son, etc., worth 86 million VND. Free medical examinations, consultations, and medication were provided to 590 people, worth 97 million VND; health insurance cards were donated to 200 disadvantaged people, worth nearly 161 million VND.
From the funds raised, the Association provided equipment for the kitchens of two kindergartens worth 78 million VND; and assisted 730 humanitarian causes worth 655 million VND. Implementing the "Shared Meal" model at hospitals and medical facilities, the Association distributed 1,320 free meals worth 25.6 million VND. At the same time, gifts worth over 1 billion VND were given to over 1,300 patients with serious illnesses and difficult circumstances receiving treatment at hospitals…
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tra, a member of the Tan Lac District Humanitarian Club, said: "Implementing the 'Sharing Meals' program and responding to activities during Humanitarian Month, the club organized the cooking and distribution of free porridge to patients undergoing long-term treatment at the district hospital. Among the patients who received the porridge, many are in very difficult circumstances. There are elderly patients with serious illnesses who have no family members to care for them and lack food for meals. Receiving a free meal made everyone happy, which also made me and the other members of the club feel excited and that we are doing something meaningful."
The practical effectiveness of activities during the 2023 Humanitarian Month demonstrated society's concern and responsibility towards vulnerable groups, the poor, and those in difficult circumstances, spreading the spirit of mutual support and compassion, contributing to the effective implementation of social welfare policies in the area.
