Things to know about the Austria - France match
Austria are making their fourth appearance at the EURO finals and their third in a row, but they face one of Europe's most consistent sides in their opening game.
France are taking part in their 11th EURO and have reached the final in three of the last four major tournaments. They won the 2018 World Cup but lost the finals of EURO 2016 and the 2022 World Cup. At EURO 2020, they were eliminated by Switzerland in the round of 16.
Both teams qualified impressively, with Austria finishing just one point behind Belgium in their group. France, meanwhile, dropped just two points along the way, picking up 22 out of a possible 24.
However, entering the final round, Austria and France will both face many challenges in Group D, which also includes Poland and the Netherlands. Therefore, whichever team wins the opening match will have a great chance of advancing.
Squad information
On the Austrian team, veteran striker Marko Arnautovic is still on the list and is likely to lead the attack. Meanwhile, some injured players such as Michael Gregoritsch, Stefan Posch… have recovered and are ready to play.
For France, Kingsley Coman was ill earlier in the week and could start. Captain Kylian Mbappe is also fine after a knee injury. Deschamps' only concern is defensive midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, who could be given a start in that position by Juventus' Adrien Rabiot.
In defence, coach Deschamps could use William Saliba in the centre of defence, pushing Ibrahima Konate to the bench. Saliba has had an impressive season for Arsenal.
Form, head-to-head record
Austria have won five and drawn one of their last six matches. Their last defeat was a 2-3 defeat to Belgium in October 2023.
