On July 6, the People's Committee of Uong Bi City coordinated with the National Cultural Heritage Council and the Department of Culture and Sports to organize a scientific workshop with the theme "Identifying, preserving and promoting the heritage values of Uong Bi land in the direction of sustainable development of Uong Bi city". Comrade Dang Xuan Phuong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of the province chaired the workshop. Attending the workshop were comrades: Nguyen Thi Hanh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Tran Dinh Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) and more than 200 delegates who are scientists, researchers, representatives of leaders of agencies, units, and localities of the province and Uong Bi city.

Speaking at the workshop, Comrade Dang Xuan Phuong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation emphasized: A large-scale workshop on heritage at the current integration time is very important and meaningful, demonstrating the seriousness in implementing the direction of the Standing Committee of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee on organizing the implementation of Resolution No. 17-NQ/TU, dated October 30, 2023 of the Provincial Party Committee on building and promoting cultural values, human strength of Quang Ninh to become an endogenous resource, a driving force for rapid and sustainable development; clarifying theoretical and practical issues on the work of preserving and promoting cultural heritage values in Uong Bi city as a foundation, driving force and important resources placed in a closely related relationship with the political tasks, socio-economic development of the locality, ensuring national defense and security, international cooperation and integration, in the orientation of sustainable development of Uong Bi city.

In their speeches at the workshop, delegates stated that Uong Bi is a historical land with a long-standing cultural tradition . The city possesses a massive system of tangible and intangible cultural heritage with 31 ranked and inventoried relics (including 2 special national relics); 32 intangible cultural heritages including social customs, folk performing arts, traditional festivals, folk literature, folk knowledge and spoken and written heritage. Uong Bi also has a tradition of revolutionary struggle of the mining working class with the invaluable spiritual heritage of "Discipline and unity". People here always have feelings of tolerance, affection, diligence and creativity .

In particular, Uong Bi has the historical relic and scenic spot Yen Tu, one of the four "blessed lands" of ancient Giao Chau and thousands of years ago was a vibrant cultural exchange area. In the 13th century, King Tran Nhan Tong chose Yen Tu to practice and founded the Truc Lam Zen sect - a unique Zen sect of the Vietnamese people. The priceless historical and cultural values of Truc Lam Buddhism have been and are being preserved, conserved and promoted. associated with the system of monuments and majestic natural landscapes of Yen Tu mountains and forests and throughout Uong Bi land , is an important condition to build Uong Bi as a "heritage city", a green, modern smart city.
More than 30 papers presented at the workshop contributed to clarifying important contents: Historical - cultural and scientific values hidden in the diverse and rich cultural heritage treasure of Uong Bi city; the current status of the work of protecting and promoting the value of cultural heritage associated with sustainable tourism development of Uong Bi and proposing appropriate solutions and models to improve the effectiveness of heritage conservation activities, contributing to promoting the development of local cultural industries, including the tourism industry with the unique characteristics of Uong Bi city.

This is the first time Uong Bi city has organized a scientific workshop to identify, preserve and promote the heritage value of Uong Bi land in the direction of sustainable and long-term development of the city. From the recommendations of scientists, the city will have solutions to invest, preserve, maintain heritage, cultural and historical traditions, plan strategies for green economic development, tourism economy; promote heritage values so that Uong Bi city has very unique values.

The workshop took place in the context that Quang Ninh province is actively and diligently working with Hai Duong and Bac Giang provinces to urgently complete and prepare the best conditions and content to serve the reception of the ICOMOS international expert delegation to the field to appraise the nomination dossier of Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son, Kiep Bac Complex as a World Heritage Site.
Uong Bi City is identified as the spiritual and cultural tourism center of Quang Ninh province, with a very important position, status and role in the development of the province and the region. In 2024, the city aims to welcome 3 million tourists, including 500,000 international visitors. Uong Bi Tourism is gradually affirming its brand and position as one of the major tourist centers of the province.
