Two drivers pay the price of illegally transporting passengers with prison sentences

Tuan works as a service driver (not registered for business), often transporting passengers in Thu Dau Mot City and Ho Chi Minh City. At the end of 2023, Tuan took a Chinese passenger from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City for a man (identity unknown) with a total cost of 20 million VND per trip.

To maintain the business relationship with the man who hired him to transport Chinese passengers, Tuan invited Tan to work with him when Tuan was busy. From August 5-8, 2024, Tuan and Tan accepted to transport 2 Chinese people from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi and 6 Chinese people in the opposite direction to earn a profit of 26 million VND.

The 6 Chinese people that Tuan and Tan transported did not have legal identification documents to be allowed to enter and stay in Vietnam according to the law.

At about 8:30 p.m. on August 8, 2024, when Tan was transporting 6 Chinese people on the Da Nang - Quang Ngai highway, he was discovered by the police force and all the people and the vehicle were taken to the Hue City Police Department for questioning.

In addition, from December 2023 until the day before being discovered, Tuan and Tan had 9 times accepted to transport Chinese people to illegally enter Vietnam.

After deliberation, the Trial Council sentenced Nguyen Minh Tuan to 2 years and 6 months in prison and Cao Minh Tan to 2 years in prison.
