The Vietnam Education Publishing House (NXBGDVN) announced that its textbooks for grades 4, 8, and 11, including "Connecting Knowledge with Life" and "Creative Horizons," have been approved by the Minister of Education and Training and will be used for teaching starting from the 2023-2024 school year. NXBGDVN has completed the price declaration process as required.
The price of new textbooks has always been a "hot" issue since the implementation of curriculum and textbook reforms.
In 2023, despite continuously rising input costs (materials, printing), Vietnam Education Publishing House (NXBGDVN) continued to implement cost-cutting measures to reduce the selling price of textbooks for grades 4, 8, and 11. The textbooks published by NXBGDVN currently have the lowest prices among all approved textbook sets.
For example, the "Connecting Knowledge with Life" book series is priced 22-26% lower than book series from other publishers (excluding English books; elective subjects and topics for grade 11).
Along with reducing profits and other costs, Vietnam Education Publishing House has continued to reduce distribution fees (discounts) to keep textbook prices for grades 4, 8, and 11 lower than the previous year. Distribution fees include transportation, warehousing, and labor costs.
Textbook prices for grades 4, 8, and 11 are 4-6% lower than those for grades 3, 7, and 10 from the previous school year, based on a comparison of the average price per page (total cover price divided by the total number of pages in the set).
The Vietnam Education Publishing House (NXBGDVN) affirms that in 2023, it will continue to implement the program to support textbooks for disadvantaged students. NXBGDVN will allocate a larger budget to donate free textbooks to students, books to libraries and schools nationwide, and scholarships to students.
To make it more convenient for parents and students to buy textbooks, Vietnam Education Publishing House (NXBGDVN) has strengthened its retail system and online sales channels. The NXBGDVN hotline (0344181018) operates from 8 AM to 10 PM daily, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, to assist parents and students with textbook-related issues.
Previously, Thanh Nien newspaper reported that the Vietnam Education Publishing House (NXBGDVN) announced the prices of new textbooks for grades 4, 8, and 11 in two series: "Connecting Knowledge with Life" and "Creative Horizons." The Vietnam Education Investment and Publishing Joint Stock Company (VEPIC) also announced the prices for the "Wings of the Kite" series. These are three textbook series approved by the Ministry of Education and Training after evaluation, serving as the basis for schools to choose and use from the 2023-2024 school year.
Accordingly, the 4th grade textbook set consists of 14-15 books. Of these, Math, Vietnamese, and English each have two volumes, priced between 250,000 and 280,000 VND per set. The "Wings of the Kite" set, although lacking an English textbook, is already priced at 230,000 VND per set.
The complete set of 14 textbooks for 8th grade in the "Connecting Knowledge with Life" series costs 270,000 - 300,000 VND per set. The remaining sets, lacking English, are priced between 250,000 - 270,000 VND per set. The 11th grade textbook set is sold for approximately 350,000 - 390,000 VND per set.
Compared to textbooks under the old curriculum, the price of new textbooks for grade 4 is about three times higher. Specifically, the old grade 4 textbooks cost 87,000 VND per set. However, the number of new textbooks is greater due to the addition of textbooks for subjects such as physical education and experiential activities.
Similarly, the new textbooks for grades 8 and 11 are also 2-3 times more expensive than the old set. This amount is calculated relatively based on the individual price of 16 books; including 9 books for compulsory subjects in the new curriculum, 4 books for elective subjects, and 3 specialized books. The "Wings of the Kite" series will be even more expensive when it includes English textbooks.
