Like every year, gardeners grow flowers such as: Dutch chrysanthemums, large flowers, raspberries, marigolds, etc. However, due to the increase in prices of materials and fertilizers, while purchasing power is expected to decrease, gardeners have reduced the area for growing Tet flowers.
The My Phong Fresh Flower Cooperative (Tien Giang) has planted more than 650,000 flower baskets of various kinds. Currently, gardeners are pruning branches, removing excess flower buds and focusing on nutrition so that the flower buds are of good quality and bloom in time for Tet.
Mr. Truong Van Nhung, Head of the My Phong Fresh Flower Cooperative, said that the number of flowers for Tet this year decreased by 200,000 pots compared to 2023.
"Up to this point, traders coming to My Phong flower village have deposited about 50% of the flowers, this is also a good sign for the gardeners. Traders are also coming to see the remaining flowers, hoping that people will sell all the flowers in the garden," said Mr. Nhung.
In My Hanh Nam commune (Duc Hoa district, Long An province), there are about 10 households growing Tet flowers. Although the scale is not as large as other flower villages, thousands of flower pots have been reserved by traders.
Traders have ordered more than 2,000 pots of chrysanthemums from Mrs. Huynh Thi Ut's flower garden at a price of 100,000 VND/pot. In addition, traders have also ordered more than 20,000 lisianthus plants and many other types of flowers from Mrs. Ut. This year, the weather is favorable, flower growers in My Hanh Nam commune expect a beautiful flower crop, good prices, and quick sales in the garden.
In Sa Dec City, nearly 100 hectares of flowers have been planted by gardeners. Currently, gardeners are busy shaping and taking care of the flowers in time to serve the Tet market.
This year's Tet flower crop in Cho Lach district (Ben Tre province) is also diverse in species: chrysanthemums of all kinds, marigolds, cockscombs, bougainvillea, bonsai, yellow apricot... Cho Lach flower has a brand and is known by many people. At this time, more than 60% of Cho Lach gardeners' flower products have been purchased by traders.
Cho Lach has more than 6,000 households specializing in growing flowers, with about 700 provincial artisans and 7 national artisans. In addition to selling flowers in the traditional way, where traders come to see and bargain directly, flower growers now also introduce and sell their products directly through e-commerce channels and social networks very effectively.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ben Tre province, along with the construction of Cho Lach Cultural Tourism Village, Ben Tre has just implemented the Project to Develop Cho Lach Seedlings and Ornamental Flowers at the national level, with a total investment of nearly 85 billion VND.
The project will build a concentrated specialized production area of 300 - 500 hectares on an area of 1,500 hectares of seedlings and ornamental flowers in Cho Lach district. The project's objective is to develop the production of seedlings and ornamental flowers in an industrial direction to provide sufficient production of high-yield, high-quality varieties that adapt to climate change and market demand; contributing to the successful implementation of the restructuring orientation of the agricultural sector towards increasing added value and sustainable development.
