Readers have known the character of the dog Hùm Xạ on Thiêng Island who “likes listening to cải lương and wandering around” from the work Hùm Xạ Crossing the River by author Bùi Tiểu Quyên. In the reunion with readers in part 2 titled Xạ Ngố đi thành phố, Hùm Xạ continues with unexpected adventures in the bustling city and makes new lovely friends.

The dog goes to school

The smart and gentle dog from the mangrove forest, coconut forest and salt fields quickly integrated into the urban life when traveling to the city. Xam got acquainted with many new friends in the city such as the husky Tony Teo, the street vendor Sao Muc, the colorful blue and yellow parrot, the Spider Tree Banyan, the cicada artist on the oil tree, "big brother Roberto" living in a mysterious tunnel...

In the city, Xam fulfilled his “biggest dream in life” of studying at the Dog Academy. Thanks to that, he trained his physical and mental strength, overcame obstacles, protected his master, fought robbers, sniffed out intelligence and gained more knowledge about “the vast world out there”. Next, he participated in the Beautiful Dog contest and received the impressive Dog award.

Not only learning and experiencing new things, Gray also went through unexpected challenges that helped him show his bravery and kindness. Gray helped the dog Brown Eyes when she was seriously injured, saved the book-loving Scarred Lizard who accidentally fell into the fish tank, and discovered the fire early so he shouted to let everyone know to rescue Hoa and the dwarf dog Mit.

“The new city scene gives Gray Tiger new experiences and wonderful discoveries . The dog experiences many emotions of joy and sadness, being loved but also experiencing loss. From there, he becomes more understanding, sharing and tolerant. In any circumstance, Gray always treats the world around him with kindness and goodness” - writer Bui Tieu Quyen shared about the work Gray Ngo goes to the city.

Journey to adulthood

Not only “going to the city”, Gray’s adventure also had the opportunity to go to the southern region of Dat Mui to better understand the origin, the “homeland” of his species. Gray Tiger’s journey to maturity is full of life, many memories, poetic, broadening his vision through each trip “going is to return”.

This dog always looks at the world with curious eyes, listening ears, an exploratory spirit and an open heart. That is the key to help him make more friends, connect people and animals, influence the community, listen to many legendary stories, valuable historical legends from the previous generation like the "old dog" Ba Khia who lives at the end of the earth.

Since then, Xam has grown more mature, proving that he has the qualities to be chosen to become a “memory dog” with the mission of preserving the past, local culture and good folk customs. “I need to remember and preserve all the images in my body to pass them on to future generations” – the dog understands the noble meaning of that mission.

Gray Ngo goes to the city is a clear work, full of warmth, honoring friendship and affection. Readers can feel a strong inspiration of gratitude, cherishing the value of memories and roots.
