With more than 50 years of revolutionary activities, Comrade Dao Duy Tung has made great contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. He spent more than 40 years working in the Party's ideological and theoretical work, from May 1955 to 1998. During most of his time working in the Central Committee, when he was assigned to be in charge of propaganda, he devoted much effort to theoretical research, summarizing propaganda work, educating political theory and the Party's guidelines and viewpoints, and fighting against viewpoints that were contrary to the Party's guidelines and viewpoints.
After the 6th Congress, as a member of the Politburo and Secretary of the Party Central Committee, he was assigned to the Political Platform Drafting Committee and made active contributions to the drafting of those important documents of the Party. At the beginning of the renovation period, as a member of the Politburo and the Secretariat, he and the Politburo studied and summarized the revolutionary practices of Vietnam and other socialist countries to build and perfect the Party's renovation policy.
Comrades in the Politburo, the Secretariat and colleagues who worked with him all felt that for many days in a row, he worked diligently from early morning until late at night on the second floor of No. 4 Nguyen Canh Chan Street, where the Politburo Standing Committee - Secretariat is based, or went down to the localities to study the situation, find ways to do things, and positive factors on the path of innovation. He was also one of the people who participated in innovation since the 1980s, along with the "trial contracts" in Vinh Phuc, Hai Phong, "contract 100" and then "contract 10", to the Platform for Innovation later. According to the results of many studies, the Central Committee's resolutions on innovation from 1986 onwards all had his handwritten comments. His speeches always represented the Party's common viewpoint and were presented clearly and with high persuasiveness.
General Secretary Do Muoi, who worked closely with comrade Dao Duy Tung for many years, assessed: Comrade Dao Duy Tung is a character with innovative thinking, always searching for and creating new factors to surpass himself.
As the leader of the Party's ideological and theoretical work during the period of bringing the country into a comprehensive renovation, besides the fundamental and important issues of the renovation policy and the country's development policy at a turning point in the nation's history, there was an issue that comrade Dao Duy Tung was particularly interested in, which was the issue of innovation in thinking. At that time, according to him, innovation in thinking was a matter of survival, if thinking was not innovated, there could be no new thinking to carry out the comprehensive renovation of the country. Forming new thinking, building new thinking was an issue that comrade Dao Duy Tung devoted a lot of effort to.
He left behind many works of profound summary value in many fields of socio-economics, Party building, especially in the field of ideological work. Talented thought leader, journalist, and propagandist
Comrade Dao Duy Tung is a prestigious and talented leader of the Central Propaganda Department (now the Central Propaganda Department). He has been involved in the ideological and theoretical work of the Vietnamese revolution for many years, and is a leader who is very interested in the Party's propaganda and press work. In the Vietnamese revolutionary press, he is not only present as a leader in ideological work, a direct leader of the press agency, but also a great journalist with journalistic works of long-term theoretical value.
From 1992 to 1995, in his assigned position, he directed the completion of the compilation of the National Curriculum for the subjects of Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh thought, and history of the Communist Party of Vietnam; led and directed propaganda activities on the platform, policies and guidelines through Party Congress resolutions.
Research shows that Comrade Dao Duy Tung is a leader in ideological, theoretical and journalistic work with new thinking, modern thinking and a comprehensive and broad vision. Comrade Dao Duy Tung suggested that the press actively participate in summarizing practices, providing a scientific basis for perfecting the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws, contributing to concretizing, supplementing and developing the path to socialism in our country. Along with praising the good and the good of the new regime, the press attaches importance to criticizing the evil, the bad, the evils of corruption and bureaucracy; criticizing those who spread skeptical arguments, distort history, distort the Party's and State's guidelines and policies... to carry out bad schemes. The press not only reflects social reality, but is responsible for properly orienting public opinion before each domestic and international event.
Right from the early period of renovation, as a senior leader of the Party, he paid special attention to the issue of information. He pointed out that innovation in information work is an important condition for innovation in thinking. He summarized that in order to meet the requirements of the revolution, this work needs to be improved in the following directions: first, diversify information and increase the amount of useful information; second, expand the transparency in information activities; third, information must be authentic, contributing to building new thinking, overcoming backward thinking; fourth, bring the people's voice to the Party and State leadership agencies at all levels; fifth, enhance criticism and self-criticism in the mass media, highlighting both positive and negative factors; sixth, information reaches the right audience, all the way to the workers.
He also requested that Party committees and authorities at all levels clearly see their responsibilities towards the press, increase information exchange, expand discussions to promptly supplement and perfect information policies as well as material and spiritual treatment regimes for journalists, create conditions for press agencies and journalists to properly implement their principles and purposes; improve information, press and communication work to promptly meet the requirements of the country's comprehensive renovation.

As a revolutionary journalist, comrade Dao Duy Tung is shown in two aspects, that is, a direct leader of a press agency and a journalist. With a huge collection of thousands of articles and speeches, comrade Dao Duy Tung is truly a great journalist. His journalistic works have strong ideological and theoretical weight, sharp political arguments, a unique and distinctive style, educational, persuasive and widely disseminated.
Journalist Ha Dang, former Head of the Central Ideology and Culture Department, said: When talking about Dao Duy Tung, people often think of someone who does ideological work rather than a journalist. In fact, he went very deeply into journalism. His journalistic works are mainly political articles, which all contain profound content, tight arguments, and a bright, clear writing style. He hates exaggerated, flashy writing without real content.
Comrade Dao Duy Tung spent 17 years (1965-1982) directly as Editor-in-Chief of the Study Magazine, now the Communist Magazine - the theoretical and political organ of the Party Central Committee. He contributed decisively to the Party's theoretical magazine's remarkable and comprehensive development. The magazine contributed to the Party's leadership and direction, clarified the Party's guidelines and ideological viewpoints, fostered the theoretical and political level of cadres and Party members; promptly criticized wrong viewpoints and ideologies, strengthened the consensus within the Party and encouraged the revolutionary action movement of the people. The magazine successfully completed its assigned tasks, contributing to the overall victory of the revolution, the resistance war, and the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
