Tan Viet Books recently organized a meeting with poet Tran Dang Khoa with the topic: The poet's advice for young parents.
The event attracted the attention of hundreds of parents with children of preschool and pre-primary school age. With the guidance and sharing of expertise and experience of the speaker - poet Tran Dang Khoa, parents had the opportunity to listen and learn a lot of useful knowledge and interesting stories about his path to poetry.
Poet Tran Dang Khoa shared that his love for literature and poetry originated from his mother. He said: "Since I was little, my mother read and told me many stories. This action was repeated over and over again, gradually forming a habit and a love for literature and poetry in me. My mother had a very clever way of asking curious questions. She only told me the summary of the stories. For example, she said that Thach Sanh had caught the ogre monster, saving both the villagers and the princess. But when I asked: How did Thach Sanh catch that monster? My mother replied: Look for books, they tell a lot about this process. Just like that, my mother brought me to books in a very natural and exciting way."
It was his passion for reading that led young Tran Dang Khoa to take his first steps towards a career in poetry.
"When I was young, my brother had a very large bookshelf with many famous works of Vietnamese and world literature such as: So do, Bi vo, Thi nhan Viet Nam, Doi va den, Truyen nhoc cua Chekhov, Tan tro doi... At that time, these works were all listed as... banned books, and children were not allowed to read them. But I still found a way to wait for my brother to go away to read them secretly. One time, he cleaned out the bookshelf and removed the books that were too damaged and wormy. I found in the pile of discarded books the poetry collection Tam long chung em. This is a collection of children's poems, a collection of poems written by children from all over the country about Uncle Ho (selected by two poets Dinh Hai and Ngo Viet Dinh). From then on, I started writing poetry," he said.
