Contractor arbitrarily dug traffic island on National Highway 1 without permission

Despite not having received permission from the competent authority managing National Highway 1, the contractor has arbitrarily brought in heavy machinery to excavate and completely destroy the traffic island at the Dung Quat intersection on National Highway 1 through Quang Ngai .

On November 13th, Road Management Area 3 - Vietnam Road Administration announced that it had issued a report and requested a temporary halt to the excavation work at the roundabout intersection of National Highway 1 and the road leading to the Dung Quat Economic Zone (Binh Son district, Quang Ngai province).

Construction work is underway to lower the height of the roundabout in violation of regulations.

Earlier that day, at noon, at the roundabout at the intersection of National Highway 1 and the Doc Soi - Dung Quat road, at kilometer 1028+140, a unit brought in excavators and deployed many workers to the roundabout to dig deep holes and uproot many trees.

The scene shows that the construction crew dug a hole about 1 meter deep. Many trees were uprooted and left lying exposed.

Immediately after the incident occurred, the Road Management Office III.1 dispatched officials to the scene, documented the incident, and requested the construction unit to stop digging and maintain the current state of the site.

Road Management Area 3 has drawn up a report and suspended construction.

According to the head of the Road Management Office III.1, the contractor lowered the height of the traffic island to ensure visibility for road users and maintain traffic safety at the intersection.

"However, the construction unit, the Management Board of Dung Quat Economic Zone and Quang Ngai Industrial Parks, did not seek the opinion of Road Management Area III.1 but arbitrarily dug a traffic island within the traffic safety corridor of National Highway 1, which is a violation of regulations. This caused traffic safety disruptions when no permit was issued and no traffic safety plan was organized," said the leader of Road Management Office III.1.

Representatives from Road Management Area 3 stated that they have requested the Management Board of Dung Quat Economic Zone and Quang Ngai Industrial Parks to prepare the necessary documents and send them to Road Management Area 3 for review and approval in accordance with current regulations. Construction will only resume once permits are granted.
