Strengthen human resources and equipment
The Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway Project Phase 1 has a total length of 188.2km. Of which, the section passing through An Giang province is component project 1 with a length of 57.2km, with four construction packages numbered 42, 43, 44 and 45.
The assigned contractor has sand on site.
Present at package 43, Giao thong Newspaper reporters recorded that there were 250 workers and engineers at the construction site along with 100 pieces of equipment and machinery operating continuously.
Mr. Nguyen Manh Tuan, Project Executive Director, Phuong Thanh Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company, said that up to now, the construction package under the company's responsibility has achieved 27.83% progress.
To achieve this progress, the contractor made a great effort in increasing 50 workers and 20 pieces of equipment and machinery to the construction site compared to the previous time, after the sand was available.
"Currently, the company is organizing 18 construction teams with 3 continuous shifts at the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway construction site in the package under the contractor's responsibility," Mr. Tuan added.
At package 44, which is being constructed by Joint Stock Company 471, the workers' working spirit is also very urgent and hurried.
Mr. Bui Danh Khoa, construction team leader of Joint Stock Company 471, said that the contract package that the company is in charge of is 4km long, including three bridges. Up to now, the construction of the bridges in the package has basically gone smoothly. The contractor is expected to launch the bridge girders next July.
"The progress of the package so far has reached 25%. At the construction site, the company arranged 50 workers and 22 pieces of equipment and machinery to work in 2 shifts, starting at 7am and ending at 10pm," said Mr. Khoa.
Although there is sand, construction is still facing difficulties because the quantity is not enough to speed up the progress.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Bieu, project manager, Dai Phong Infrastructure Construction Joint Stock Company informed that from the first days of the project's construction until now, the company has arranged human resources and equipment at the construction site with the spirit of being ready to construct.
"Currently, at the construction site, there are 50 workers and 30 pieces of equipment and machinery that are always operating continuously for construction. In order to organize work effectively, the company has arranged two shifts with 6 construction teams. Up to now, the progress of the package has reached 31%," Mr. Bieu added.
Sand is allocated to meet 50% of construction needs.
According to Mr. Bieu, the overall progress of the project basically meets the investor's requirements thanks to the contractor's effective organization of construction of the bridges in the project, which has reached 54% so far.
As for the road, the construction is somewhat difficult due to the lack of sand for the foundation, so the progress is currently only 10%. Starting from June 7, the contractor has just been allocated sand to the construction site with a quantity of 1,000m3/day.
The contractor wishes to increase the amount of sand distributed to the construction site of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway, through An Giang province.
Meanwhile, to speed up construction, the contractor needs 1,500-2,000m3 of sand per day. Thus, the current amount of sand only meets 50% of the construction demand for the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway package that the company is in charge of implementing.
"The package under the responsibility of Dai Phong Infrastructure Construction Joint Stock Company requires 425,000m3 of sand. To have sand at the construction site soon, the contractor has arranged 10 barges to take turns picking up the allocated sand to serve the construction," said Mr. Bieu.
Mr. Bieu added that according to the calculations of the professional agency, it is expected that by April 2025, the contractor must complete the roadbed loading. The loading time depends on the section, but on average it will take 12 months to ensure technical factors.
"Therefore, to ensure the construction progress, the contractor needs more sand to the construction site to ensure that the unloading and construction of the next parts can be completed in April 2026," Mr. Bieu shared.
Meanwhile, in the package under the responsibility of Phuong Thanh Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company, Mr. Tuan informed that since the sand was distributed to the construction site, the contractor only received an average of 1,200-1,700m3/day.
With sand, the construction site is somewhat busier, however, the company is also facing the difficulty that with this quantity, the contractor cannot speed up the construction to compensate for the sand arriving at the construction site later than the proposed construction plan.
"The most difficult thing is the long loading time but the sand at the construction site only meets 50% of the construction volume. Therefore, to speed up the progress, more sand is needed, then the contractor can speed up", Mr. Tuan informed.
Human resources and equipment are ready when more sand arrives at the construction site, the contractor will speed up construction to compensate for the progress.
Mr. Khoa said that the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway construction package, constructed by Joint Stock Company 471, requires a total of 390,000m3 of sand. However, currently, the contractor only receives 1,200m3 of sand per day.
While the actual demand for sand for contractors to speed up construction at the site is 3,000m3 of sand/day, the lack of sand at the site results in additional costs for the contractor of 70-100 million VND/month.
"In 2024, the contractor urgently needs 160,000m3 of sand to treat the foundation and carry out the wick placement stage. If the sand demand cannot be delivered to the construction site in time, the package will be at risk of being 4 months behind schedule compared to the construction plan," Mr. Khoa added.
The Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway Project Phase 1 has a total length of 188.2km, passing through four provinces and cities: An Giang, Can Tho, Hau Giang and Soc Trang. The starting point connects to National Highway 91 in Chau Doc city (An Giang) and the end point intersects with Nam Song Hau National Highway, connecting to Tran De port access road (Soc Trang), with a total investment of 44,691 billion VND. The entire route is expected to be completed and put into use in 2027.
Of which, component project 1 in An Giang province is 57.2km long, component project 2 in Can Tho city is 37.2km long, component project 3 in Hau Giang province is nearly 37km long and component project 4 in Soc Trang province is 56.9km long.
In phase 1, the project will be invested in a 4-lane scale, with a design speed of 100km/h. In the final phase, the project will be invested in a 6-lane scale.
