On March 15, Sputnik News reported that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi discussed the situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant following Ukraine's attack on the facility.
The above information was announced by the US State Department after a meeting between Mr. Blinken and Mr. Grossi in Vienna (Austria).
"Secretary Blinken and Director General Grossi discussed safety, security and safeguards issues, including the IAEA presence at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant," the ministry said in a statement.
According to the statement, Mr. Blinken highlighted Washington's strong support for the IAEA's global nuclear non-proliferation verification mission, including resolving outstanding verification issues in Iran.
The US diplomat also noted the IAEA's important role in helping member states develop and benefit from the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, science and technology to help achieve the United Nations' sustainable development goals, including addressing the global climate change challenge.
Earlier, on March 14, the press office of the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant said that the Ukrainian army had shelled important infrastructure at the plant.
