Fukushima nuclear power plant allowed to discharge waste

According to Japan Times, on July 7, Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) allowed Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), the operator of Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, to discharge treated radioactive water into the sea.

The NRA confirmed that the discharge equipment had passed its inspections. According to the Japanese government , the discharge process will be carried out by the end of this summer.

South Korea said it will evaluate Japan's plan to discharge treated radioactive wastewater to meet international safety standards if it proceeds as planned.

Meanwhile, China announced that it will ban the import of some foods from 10 Japanese prefectures and require strict radiation testing for imported items from the rest of the Northeast Asian country.
