According to Russia Today, on September 11, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is preparing to make an official visit to Russia at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin.
Earlier, according to South Korean television station YTN, a South Korean government official said that Mr. Kim Jong-un "is traveling on a private train to the northeastern border."
Russia and North Korea share a short border near the city of Vladivostok in Russia's Far East. Commenting on the visit, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will lead delegations from both countries for talks. The last meeting between the two leaders took place in 2019, when Kim Jong-un arrived in Vladivostok on an armored train.
Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu visited Pyongyang in July to attend a military parade marking the 70th anniversary of the end of the Korean War. The Russian defense minister also proposed holding joint Russian-North Korean military exercises at that time.
