China Pipa Yuan is recognized by Guinness as the world's largest hotpot restaurant by simultaneous seating capacity, with more than 5,800 people.

Chongqing is famous for its hot pot. There are tens of thousands of restaurants specializing in this hot and spicy dish for visitors to choose from. If you are looking for a restaurant that is impressive, Pipa Yuan or Pipa Yuan is the one.

Pi Pa Yuan is described as a "giant restaurant on a large hill". It was certified by Guinness World Records as the "World's Largest Hotpot Restaurant by Capacity" in June 2022. The restaurant currently has 888 tables (the Chinese love the lucky number 8), and can serve up to 5,851 people at a time.

Pipayuan covers about 3,300 square meters, stretching over half a hill in Nan'an District, on the outskirts of the city. Most diners have to be escorted to their tables by staff.

From the parking lot at the foot of the hill, diners have to walk another 30 minutes to reach the restaurant located halfway up the hill. Although it has a large capacity, it is "almost impossible" to come without a reservation, especially in the spring and summer. In addition to tourists, this place attracts locals. On winter days, the restaurant serves "more customers than the population of a small county" in China.

Serving thousands of diners, the restaurant also cooks several tons of hot pot every day and requires a large staff. Ti Ba Vien has hundreds of waiters, dozens of chefs, dozens of kitchen assistants, and 25 cashiers.

The restaurant is crowded day and night, opening hours are from 9am to 12pm. Many tourists like to come to the restaurant in the evening because this place is colorful. The restaurant is illuminated with thousands of colorful lights, stretching across the entire hillside.

The restaurant's main dish, hot pot, has received thousands of "surprisingly delicious" online reviews. The restaurant's ingredients are described as "fresh", "mildly seasoned", not too spicy and the view is great. However, the downsides are the time it takes to get there (a 30-minute walk) and the long wait (especially during peak hours).

Chongqing hot pot and Chengdu hot pot are the two most popular and famous types of Sichuan (Chongqing used to be part of Sichuan province, but in 1997 it was separated into a centrally-governed city. Chengdu is the provincial capital of Sichuan). Chongqing hot pot is also known as stomach hot pot or spicy hot pot, originating from the late Ming Dynasty to the early Qing Dynasty. The main ingredients at that time were animal organs and blood.
