On August 23, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) announced that it is expected to start construction of the passenger terminal and runway of the Long Thanh airport project phase 1 on August 31.
Accordingly, with the Long Thanh airport project, the passenger terminal worth over VND35,000 billion is one of the most important projects. This is a bid package with a construction period of 39 months, which is considered complex and of great value.
The terminal is designed in the shape of a lotus flower, including 1 ground floor and 3 floors, with a total floor area of over 376,451m2, a roof height of over 45m, and 40 parking positions for aircraft.
The runway project is worth more than 7,000 billion VND, with a construction period of about 23 months. The runway is 4,000m long and 45m wide; a system of 2 parallel taxiways, 6 quick exit taxiways, connecting taxiways, 4 aircraft parking lots and parking lots for ground service vehicles.
In addition, there are other auxiliary works such as airport security fence system and guard booths to ensure security and prevent intrusion from outside.
The 5,000-hectare Long Thanh International Airport project has a total estimated investment of about VND336,630 billion, starting construction in early 2021, divided into 3 phases. The first phase of the project will build a runway, a passenger terminal and ancillary items with a capacity of 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo per year. Phase 1 is expected to be operational around the fourth quarter of 2026.
The passenger terminal is the most important item of the airport project in phase 1. The lotus image is used as the main idea throughout the design process, applied to the roof, perspective from the main view of the terminal, and interior of the check-in area.
