Domestic investors currently have a total of more than 9.1 million securities accounts. However, the number of new accounts opened last month decreased significantly with 135,188 accounts.
According to information from the Vietnam Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation (VSDC), the number of net new domestic individual investor accounts ( the difference between newly opened and closed accounts) reached 135,188 accounts in November 2024. Thus, the number of net new securities accounts opened by domestic individual investors is at its lowest level in the past 5 months.
Domestic organizations opened 107 new securities accounts in November, 14 accounts lower than in October. In total, domestic investors opened 135,295 new accounts in November and in the first 11 months, they opened more than 1.86 million new accounts, 4.7 times higher than the whole year of 2023 (the year with the highest number of account closures). Domestic investors currently have a total of more than 9.1 million securities accounts.
Meanwhile, foreign investors opened 162 new securities accounts in November 2024, 68 accounts less than the previous month. Of which, foreign individual investors opened 148 new accounts. Foreign institutional investors opened 14 new accounts. After the first 11 months of 2024, foreign investors opened a total of 2,214 new securities accounts.
The total number of securities accounts of domestic and foreign investors at the end of November 2024 is nearly 9.16 million. The above figure is equivalent to 8.89% of Vietnam's population.

Individual investors continue to reduce opening new securities accounts in the context of the general market fluctuating in a negative direction, liquidity always remains at a low level.
In November, the VN-Index fell below the 1,200-point mark at times. The VN-Index ended November 2024 at 1,250.46 points, down 14.02 points, equivalent to a decrease of 1.11% compared to October, with the average trading value per session hitting an 18-month low of VND12,202 billion, counting only matching orders. The total average trading value per session on the three exchanges reached VND15,785,000 billion in November. In terms of matching orders alone, the average trading value per session was VND13,481 billion, down 12.7% compared to the average in October and down 30% compared to the average in 1 year. Individual investors net bought VND2,396.6 billion. Proprietary traders net bought VND244.3 billion, and in terms of matching orders alone, they net bought VND705.5 billion. Domestic institutional investors net bought 7,958.6 billion VND, of which 6,351.7 billion VND was net bought. Foreign investors net sold 12,004.3 billion VND, of which 9,453.8 billion VND was net sold.
On the HNX floor, the stock market also fluctuated and tended to decrease in both stock prices and liquidity. After a sharp decline in the third trading week of the month, the HNX Index tended to recover and closed at 224.64 points, down only 0.75% compared to October 2024. Market liquidity decreased compared to the previous month. The average trading volume of the market reached 48.2 million shares/session, down 11%, equivalent to an average trading value of VND 850.2 billion/session, down 14.9%. The trading session on November 8, 2024 was recorded with the highest volume of 69.3 million shares, equivalent to the highest trading value of VND 1,230 billion.
Meanwhile, the derivatives market in November 2024 continued to be active. The average trading volume of VN30 index futures contracts reached 227,559 contracts, up 9.52% over the previous month, corresponding to an average trading value increase of 5.37%, reaching VND 29,637 billion/session (in nominal terms of contracts). Of which, the trading session on November 20, 2024 had the largest trading volume of the month with 353,154 contracts. Notably, the volume of open interest (OI) at the end of the month reached 59,106 contracts, up 10.11% over the previous month.
Notably, the trading session on November 18, 2024 had an open interest volume of 72,740 contracts, the highest level since the beginning of 2024. Derivative securities trading by securities companies decreased slightly compared to the previous month, accounting for 2.24% of the total market (compared to 2.6% in September 2024). Foreign investors also slightly reduced their trading, accounting for 2.84% of the total trading volume of the whole market.
