To better understand the work "3-part series: Understanding and effectively resolving major relationships in the process of innovation and progress towards socialism in Vietnam," which excellently won the A Prize at the 18th National Journalism Awards, a reporter from the Journalists & Public Opinion Newspaper had a conversation with journalist, Dr. Le Hai, Member of the Editorial Board, Head of the Electronic Communist Magazine, Communist Magazine.
Journalist, Dr. Le Hai
+ Journalist Le Hai is known for his award-winning journalistic works at the Golden Hammer and Sickle Awards, the National Journalism Awards, etc. This year, his three-part series: Understanding and Effectively Resolving Major Relationships in the Process of Renovation and Advancement Towards Socialism in Vietnam, has just won the A Prize at the 18th National Journalism Awards. How do you feel about that, Mr. Journalist?
-I am very happy that this is the result of a long and dedicated creative process. I am even happier that the work was highly appreciated by the judging panel of both the preliminary and final rounds of the National Journalism Award, which included highly reputable and objective journalists and theorists. This is also a shared joy for the Communist Magazine, as the work received very insightful and high-quality guidance and feedback from the Standing Committee of the Editorial Board and colleagues in the agency, as well as some experts who are strategic collaborators of the Magazine. This is a great source of motivation for me to continue learning, researching, and writing further works, as well as to further love and be committed to my work.
"Understanding and effectively resolving major relationships in the process of innovation and progress towards socialism in Vietnam" is a large and challenging topic, as it addresses core theoretical issues and reflects the dialectical laws of socialism and the path to socialism in Vietnam. Could you share the significance and objectives of this work?
-The Communist Magazine is the political and theoretical organ of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and therefore has the political task of participating in research and dissemination of the summary of 40 years of national renewal and preparing the documents for the 14th Party Congress. These are all major practical summaries and important theoretical research projects of our Party, one of the main currents of political and theoretical life in 2024.
The major relationships are one of the core theoretical issues in the Party's reform line, reflecting the inherent laws governing Vietnam's path to socialism. Therefore, the Editorial Board of the Communist Magazine has set a central goal for research and dissemination, aiming to contribute to the generalization, systematization, and clarification of the Party's theoretical development regarding these major relationships. Understanding and grasping these major relationships—that is, understanding and grasping the laws governing the movement and development of human society; the laws governing the construction of socialism; and the principles of organization and operation of the Communist Party—is a decisive factor in the Party's successful leadership in building socialism in Vietnam.
In particular, after 40 years of reform, we have formed a theoretical system on the reform line in Vietnam, guiding the reform process and the path to socialism in Vietnam, as mentioned by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the recent 9th Plenum of the 14th Central Committee. The theory on the reform line in Vietnam is the culmination of the wisdom, dedication, and efforts of the entire Party, the entire people, and the entire army over 40 years, of the Central Committee, the Politburo, and the Secretariat. It bears the very strong imprint of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and of countless generations of researchers, propagandists, and lecturers in this theory.
Along with the general goals of socialism, the characteristics of socialist society, and the directions for building socialism, major relationships are an important component of the theory of the reform line in Vietnam. Therefore, the study and dissemination of in-depth scholarly articles on these major relationships is of great importance, contributing to clarifying a fundamental theoretical issue in the theory of the reform line in Vietnam. Beyond simply generalizing, this article also presents new discoveries, anticipates challenges, and offers new proposals for understanding and effectively resolving these major relationships in the process of reform towards socialism in Vietnam. This is based on scientific and logical analysis, a rigorous and persuasive system of arguments and evidence, clearly demonstrating the distinctive character and qualities of the Communist Magazine.
+ Although you are an experienced journalist, as you mentioned above, creating works of this high theoretical scope is indeed not easy or simple. So, what difficulties or obstacles did you encounter while developing this series of articles, sir?
-General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, a journalist with nearly 30 years of experience working at the Communist Magazine, deeply understands the intricacies of research and writing theoretical essays. He once shared: "Every journalistic job is difficult; each has its own requirements and challenges. Daily journalism is already difficult, but it must be acknowledged that theoretical journalism is even more challenging." Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong also quoted the late Prime Minister Pham Van Dong's advice: "The profession of journalism is very difficult, extremely difficult; writing a theoretical essay is even more difficult. Therefore, one must diligently cultivate oneself. It requires a great deal of effort. Each person must diligently cultivate themselves."

Inspired by the General Secretary's advice, we continued to learn from our predecessors at the Communist Magazine and understood that writing theoretical articles requires great dedication, meticulous effort, and hard work. In particular, understanding the major relationships is a highly advanced process of theoretical generalization, a difficult and lengthy process that clearly demonstrates each step and stage of innovation and development in theoretical thinking. It is a vivid manifestation reflecting the level of maturity and development of our Party's theory. Therefore, writing on this topic also demands systematic and very thorough research, including in-depth study and consultation of secondary materials and expert opinions to deeply understand the issue. Simultaneously, we must constantly nurture, cultivate, and strive to connect events and phenomena to discover new ideas and issues within its inherently complex yet logical order… This is perhaps the most difficult aspect of writing a theoretical essay in general, and this article in particular.
But when the work is completed, seeing one's "brainchild" come to life is a moment that brings immeasurable happiness to those who wield the pen. After the article was published, I continued to think about this major research problem, and some new thoughts arose, which I regret not being able to fully convey in this article. I will share them in other articles later.
Congratulations and sincere thanks to the journalist!
