This is a meaningful program to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the publication of the first issue of the Red Trade Union Magazine (now the Labor and Trade Union Magazine) (October 1, 1929 - October 1, 2024) by Comrade Nguyen Duc Canh as Editor-in-Chief. The program is also part of a series of activities to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (1925 - 2025).
The seminar aims to honor the great contributions of comrade Nguyen Duc Canh to the Vietnamese Revolutionary Journalism; at the same time, provide more information and new discoveries about the life and revolutionary career of comrade Nguyen Duc Canh, especially in the field of journalism.
Comrade Nguyen Duc Canh (1908-1932) was one of the Party's senior revolutionary leaders, a staunch communist, and a great journalist of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press.
Realizing the importance of the press in revolutionary movements, comrade Nguyen Duc Canh used the press as a sharp weapon of combat, actively directing the promotion of propaganda work, mobilizing workers to unite in the class struggle.
He actively contributed to the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam; at the same time, he was the provisional President of the General Confederation of Labor of North Vietnam and the first Editor-in-Chief of the Labor Newspaper and the Red Labor Magazine (now the Labor and Trade Union Magazine).
Up to now, based on published documents, it can be affirmed that the Red Trade Union Magazine (first published on October 1, 1929) is the first research and theoretical magazine in the history of revolutionary journalism. The birth of the Red Trade Union Magazine is a milestone in the history of revolutionary journalism in Vietnam, opening up the horizon and prospects of the proletariat and the revolution. This demonstrates the great political determination and propaganda of the Red Trade Union of North Vietnam and of the Indochinese Communist Party, whose leader Nguyen Duc Canh is the soul.
The purpose of the Red Trade Union Magazine is summarized in the manifesto: "The proletariat must have a proletarian press". The purpose of the Magazine was determined from the beginning as "An organ to propagate the theory of the Red Trade Union among the Vietnamese working class".
The first issue of the Red Trade Union Magazine (October 1, 1929) had 4 sections: Thesis; Struggle experience; Travel correspondence; News; the second issue (November 1, 1929) had 4 sections: Politics; Struggle theory; Travel correspondence; News.
The decision to publish the Red Trade Union Magazine (which to this day only has the first two issues preserved) reflects the theoretical and journalistic level of the Indochinese Communist Party and the Red Trade Union of North Vietnam, represented by leader Nguyen Duc Canh. It can be affirmed that the intention of Nguyen Duc Canh and his comrades was to build the first revolutionary magazine, even though it was only within the area of the Red Trade Union organization.
Within the framework of the program, Labor and Trade Union Magazine presented a bust of comrade Nguyen Duc Canh to the Vietnam Press Museum to add more artifacts to the exhibition room of the 1925-1930 press period.
