The Vietnam Open Badminton Tournament was established in 1996, interrupted for a few years and then maintained annually, within the competition system of the Badminton World Federation (BWF). With the efforts of the Ho Chi Minh City Badminton Federation, the tournament has grown stronger and has been upgraded to BWF Tour Super 100 with an attractive total prize of 100,000 USD (about 2.5 billion VND).

Nguyen Thuy Linh promises to shine on home turf
The biggest hope for Vietnamese badminton at this year's tournament is still on the beautiful and talented player Nguyen Thuy Linh, currently ranked 22nd in the world. As the highest-ranked player, Nguyen Thuy Linh was chosen as the number 1 seed in the women's singles event. Competing with the number 1 Vietnamese player are notable faces such as Anupama (India, ranked 44th in the world), Lauren Lam (USA, ranked 47th in the world), Lin Hsiang-ti (Taiwan, ranked 54th in the world). With stable performance, Nguyen Thuy Linh aims to win the championship to create a record of 3 consecutive championships. Also in the women's singles event, Vietnamese badminton has another player Vu Thi Anh Thu who entered directly to the main round but unfortunately faced Nguyen Thuy Linh in the first match.
