Nguyen Tan Hoai wins stage 16 of Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup 2025

Stage 16 of the Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup - Ton Dong A 2025 from Buon Ma Thuot City to Nha Trang City has a 190km route and is extremely exciting.

The attacks continued after the start, giving a group of nearly 20 riders a chance to escape with a large gap. But because the leading group was not completely united, there were continued strong pedaling movements, creating a breathless chase.

In sprint 1, Ivan Blokhin (An Giang Pearl Rice) defeated Le Thanh Hieu (620 Vinh Long Agriculture ) to win points.

But in sprint 2, Le Thanh Hieu learned from experience and attacked early in the first group of 3 cyclists to win.

Then the racers went down the 10km long Phoenix Pass, with some bad sections that caused many cyclists to have flat tires, causing major disruption to the race.

And three racers Nguyen Duong Ho Vu (HCMC – New Group), Nguyen Hoang Giang (Gao Hat Ngoc Troi An Giang ) and Nguyen Pham Quoc Khang (Pelio Kenda Dong Nai) escaped after passing the pass.

The unity helped the trio to create a gap of more than 3 minutes over the large group with strong riders. It was not until the last 30km that the Vinh Long team really accelerated, pulling the large group to chase, creating an opportunity for Nicholas Kergozou at the finish line.

The chase was exciting and it took about 2km to catch up with the leading riders. Due to having to work too much, the Vinh Long riders were exhausted when supporting the New Zealand foreigner in the decisive stage.

This forced Nicholas Kergozou to accelerate himself earlier than usual under pressure from competition from Savva Novikov (Binh Minh Binh Duong Plastic), Nguyen Van Binh (HCMC - New Group),..

But while these strikers were competing fiercely, Nguyen Tan Hoai (Loc Troi An Giang Group) from an unfavorable position sneaked up on the right wing to win a close victory right at the finish line.

This is the first time Nguyen Tan Hoai has won a stage in this year's race. And it is the second time Nicholas Kergozou has failed in the sprint to the finish line against a Vietnamese racer, after losing to Nguyen Van Binh in the previous stage.

On April 21, the racers will continue with stage 17 from Nha Trang City to Da Lat City, a 141km long race. This is a very decisive stage of this year's tournament, when the racers must conquer two passes, Khanh Le and Giang Ly.
