Excellently completing the task in 2 singles and doubles matches, Nguyen Quoc Nguyen helped his team Hana Card defeat direct competitor Phoenix in this afternoon's match in Round 5, thereby increasing the chance of winning a ticket to the final round of the 2023-2024 PBA Team League Billiards tournament.
The 2023-2024 PBA Team League Billiards season consists of 5 Rounds with the participation of 9 teams. After 5 Rounds, the Organizing Committee will select 5 Round champions to compete in the final round of the year. Currently, after 4 Rounds, the tournament has determined that the Green Force team with Ma Minh Cam winning Round 1 and 3, Bazzar winning Round 2, Laon winning Round 4 are the 3 teams that are certain to participate in the final round of the year. The remaining two tickets will be for the Round 5 champion and the team with the best results outside the Round champions.
Since 3 tickets to the final round have been claimed, the competition for the remaining two tickets is quite exciting. Currently, Hana Card (52 points) has Nguyen Quoc Nguyen, Direct has Ngo Dinh Nai (53 points), Phoenix team (52 points), Angels team (53 points) are the 4 teams competing. Today, the 4 teams meet in 2 matches: Hana Card vs Phoenix and Direct vs Angels, which is a decisive match.
Continuing to be the “idol” of the Hana Card team, Nguyen Quoc Nguyen was trusted to play 2 men’s doubles and men’s singles matches when facing the Phoenix team. In the men’s doubles match, standing with his junior Jung Ju Shin against the Seo Hyun Min/Uymaz pair, Nguyen Quoc Nguyen completed the task with a victory of 11/4.
In the men's singles, Nguyen Quoc Nguyen faced off against Turkish player Uymaz, a former PBA Tour champion. However, the player affectionately known as Anh Sau of Vietnamese billiards continued to show good form and won 11/7, thereby helping his team Hana Card win 4-1 overall, earning all 3 points.
Similar to Nguyen Quoc Nguyen, player Ngo Dinh Nai was the one who contributed greatly to the victory of Direct team against direct opponent Angles in the late match ending at 10pm tonight. After 6 games, the two teams are tied 3/3 so the final men's singles game between Ngo Dinh Nai and Turkish player Can Capak will decide the fate of the match.
The match was quite exciting when Ngo Dinh Nai led 5/0 and was equalized by Capak at 5/5. It seemed that the Vietnamese player would be under pressure because of his opponent's pursuit, but Ngo Dinh Nai excellently handled 2 beautiful shots, each scoring 2 points. Along with 2 normal points, Ngo Dinh Nai scored a total of 6 consecutive points to end the match with a score of 11/5. Thanks to this victory, the player Ngo helped his team Direct defeat Angles with a close score of 4-3, earning 2 points.
Meanwhile, the match between two teams with Vietnamese players, Green Force and Winners, ended with a score of 4-1 in favor of Winners. The two players Nguyen Huynh Phuong Linh and Nguyen Duc Anh Chien were both sent onto the field and completed their tasks for Winners, while Ma Minh Cam played the 7th game and could not play for Green Force. However, this victory for Winners was no longer meaningful because they had no chance to compete. For Green Force, this loss was not a problem because they were still at the top of the overall rankings and had already secured a ticket to the finals.
With today's results, Nguyen Quoc Nguyen's Hana Card and Ngo Dinh Nai's Direct are creating an advantage in competing for tickets to the final round of the year. Both Hana Card and Direct have 55 points, while the two direct opponents are Angles (54 points) and Phoenix (52 points). However, Direct with Ngo Dinh Nai will have an advantage over Hana Card with Nguyen Quoc Nguyen. Because Direct has 2 matches left to play, while Hana Card only has 1 match left in the race.
