The 3rd Congress of the Association of Vietnamese People in Hungary for the 2024-2029 term was successfully held in Budapest, Hungary.
This is considered the largest congress in the history of nearly 75 years of living, studying and working of Vietnamese people in Hungary, with the participation of about 230 delegates and guests.

In her opening speech, Vietnamese Ambassador to Hungary Nguyen Thi Bich Thao reiterated the assessment of Hungarian leaders, affirming that the Vietnamese community in Hungary is a united, honest community, deeply integrated into the host society, making encouraging contributions to the host country and to the traditional and good friendship between the two countries and peoples.
On behalf of Hungary, Dr. Simicskó István, former Minister of Defense of Hungary, co-Chairman of the Hungary-Vietnam Friendship Committee and the Hungary-Southeast Asia Friendship Committee of the Hungarian Parliament, expressed his admiration for the spirit of work and study of the Vietnamese community.
He emphasized that Hungary's "Look East" policy has opened up opportunities for sustainable cooperation between the two countries, in which the Vietnamese community plays an important bridging role.
Summarizing the 2017-2024 term, Mr. Vu Quy Duong, Chairman of the Association of Vietnamese People in Hungary, said that member associations have paid great attention to the difficult lives of the Vietnamese community in Hungary and Europe, as well as compatriots facing natural disasters and epidemics in their homeland.
The Association has made many efforts to enhance its position and reputation in the community, such as successfully filing a request for 1% personal income tax from Vietnamese workers in Hungary, creating revenue for the association's fund.
The association is also submitting documents to request the Hungarian government to recognize the Vietnamese community as an ethnic minority in Hungary; many association members have participated in and been elected to key positions in domestic and international organizations.

Proposal to become a Hungarian minority
The Vietnamese community in Hungary currently has about 6,500 people and is growing. Most of the Vietnamese in Hungary are business people, some are professors and doctors teaching and researching in universities.
In addition, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Ngoc Can, Dr. Giap Van Chung and translator Le Xuan Giang were awarded the Golden Cross of Merit , one of the most noble awards of the Hungarian state. These are truly people who play an important role as a cultural bridge between the two countries.
Many second-generation young people have made a name for themselves in their home countries as artists, designers... and are known to the host society, such as singer Nguyen Thanh Hien and opera singer Ninh Duc Hoang Long.
Community artists have been practicing hard for many months to create unique performances that touch people's hearts with deep national pride.

In volunteer movements to support people in difficulty in the country, the Vietnamese community in Hungary has also actively contributed and helped with a larger number than other communities.
Up to now, Hungary has trained more than 4,000 Vietnamese students with qualifications in science, technology, and economic management, many of whom have become key leaders. The Vietnamese student community studying and researching in Hungary is highly appreciated by Hungarian leaders, and has a deep understanding of the language, culture, and customs of the host country.
The 3rd Congress of the Vietnamese Association in Hungary approved the results of the election of the Executive Committee for the 2024-2029 term with 42 members. Mr. Vu Quy Duong was re-elected as President of the Association, along with 5 Vice Presidents, heads of grassroots organizations, and a number of other prestigious individuals with a heart for the community.
