In the experiment, the authors scored each step of the exercise.
Dr. Natalie Azar, School of Medicine, New York University Langone (USA) said that people with higher scores - from 8 points or more - are more likely to live longer, according to the Daily Mail.
If you can stand up from a cross-legged sitting position without assistance, you will get a maximum score of 10.
How to do and score
This exercise starts with standing, sitting on the floor, then standing up without getting on your hands or knees.
The scoring is as follows:
In case of having to lean on hands, knees, forearms or one leg to stand up, 1 point will be deducted for each assistance.
If you can stand up from a cross-legged position without assistance, you will get a maximum score of 10.
In case of being unable to stand up without assistance, the score will be 0.
People who can easily do the "stand-up-sit-down" exercise are more likely to live longer.
What score is healthy?
A score of 8 or higher is considered to be healthy, not necessarily 10. Dr. Azar revealed that she herself only scored 9 even though she works out every day, according to the Daily Mail.
However, Dr. Azar notes that for people with musculoskeletal conditions such as injuries and complications, the score may not accurately reflect their ability to live long.
Dr. Azar advises not to panic if you don't get a high score.
