Young people in traditional cultural costumes

Việt NamViệt Nam04/03/2025

Recently, young people tend to learn and choose national cultural costumes for important occasions, cultural events or art performances. National costumes are not only an aesthetic feature but also have profound meaning, reflecting the life, customs and cultural identity of each community.

Cao Bang is a land rich in cultural identity with the coexistence of many ethnic minorities. Each ethnic group has its own traditional costumes, reflecting the life, customs and aesthetic concepts of the community. Today, although modern life is changing rapidly, many young people in Cao Bang still preserve and proudly wear their traditional costumes, both to express their cultural identity and to spread traditional beauty to the community. They consider wearing traditional costumes not only an act of respecting the past, but also a way to affirm their position in a turbulent modern society.

One of the important occasions for Cao Bang youth to wear traditional costumes is cultural festivals; an opportunity for the community to meet, exchange and honor long-standing cultural values. In the jubilant atmosphere of the festival, the national costumes not only help young people immerse themselves in the cultural identity of their nation but also bring pride when showing off with the community. The vibrant performances of traditional singing and dancing activities further increase the appeal, making everyone feel the strong vitality of indigenous culture.

At festivals, boys and girls in colorful traditional costumes create a vivid picture, reflecting the beauty of traditional culture. The graceful Tay and Nung girls in indigo ao dai, the strong Dao boys with head scarves and indigo shirts, or the brilliant Mong girls in brocade flared skirts... all create a colorful and meaningful space. Especially, in activities such as Then singing, bamboo dancing, throwing con or love markets, traditional costumes not only enhance the beauty of the wearer but also show the connection between people and ethnic culture. Thereby, each dance movement or step when participating in folk games further highlights the youthfulness, passion and pride of the young generation for their roots.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Anh (Bao Lam) shared: For me, traditional costumes are not just a set of clothes, but also a source of pride, a connection to the roots of the nation. I believe that wearing traditional costumes in festivals not only helps introduce indigenous culture to more people but also helps me understand more deeply about my national identity.

In addition to participating in the festival, many young people also actively recorded memorable moments when wearing traditional costumes. Photos and videos of the cultural festival were widely shared on social networks, helping to spread the beauty of national identity and attract the attention of many people, especially domestic and foreign tourists. Not only stopping at preserving memories, this is also a way to promote Cao Bang culture to friends, contributing to the development of community tourism and preserving traditional beauty. The presence of traditional costumes on digital platforms not only helps to enhance the image of local culture but also creates opportunities for young researchers and designers to learn and develop creative ideas based on this rich cultural heritage.

In addition, schools, cultural centers and community organizations in Cao Bang have been organizing many exchange programs, seminars and exhibitions on traditional costumes. These activities not only help the younger generation better understand the history and culture of the nation but also create opportunities for them to proudly show off their unique cultural values. Thereby, the combination of tradition and modernity is more clearly demonstrated, contributing to the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage in the context of international integration.

It can be seen that, although time has changed, the love for traditional costumes has not faded. They not only preserve but also breathe new life into ethnic costumes, helping them to continue to exist and develop in modern life. Thanks to that, the cultural identity of the highlands is not only preserved but also becomes a source of pride for the younger generation to continue to preserve and promote. It is the harmonious combination of tradition and modernity that has created a new wave of culture, in which each individual is not only an inheritor of heritage but also a creator, a transformer and an inspiration for the community, contributing to building a future full of pride in national culture.
