Teachers and the aspiration to "internationalize" education to serve the Fatherland

Aspiration for educational innovation

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Truc Le was born in 1976. He graduated with honors with a PhD in Economics - Faculty of Economics, Kingston University London - UK. Previously, he graduated with honors with a Master of Economics - Major in Banking and Finance - University of Gdansk, Poland.

After 17 years of living, studying and working abroad, including teaching, Mr. Le realized that many of the teaching staff here studied abroad and then returned to contribute to the country's education.

Meanwhile, he himself - a Vietnamese - has devoted and contributed a lot to the education of his host country. This made him ponder and decided to return to Vietnam, carrying with him the aspiration to contribute to the education of his country and in 2017, at the age of 41, he was appointed Principal of the University of Economics - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

As a young educator with new and modern educational ideas and methods, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Truc Le has successfully applied university management models, digitalization, KPIs-3Ps in public organizations suitable for job positions, associated with the strategy of saving, minimizing training costs for the country, minimizing "brain drain and monetary drain" for the country.

At the same time, he also directed the promotion of the model of international lecturer exchange and international student exchange according to credit semesters between the world's leading prestigious universities with a "0 VND" credit training fee (students do not have to pay additional tuition when exchanging credits at international schools).

University of Economics, Vietnam National University, Hanoi and Financial University, Russian Federation signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Student Exchange Agreement.

With this model, Hanoi National University - University of Economics has cooperated with nearly 60 universities in the world, including many prestigious schools and top 200 schools in the world such as: Kelley School of Business, Indiana University, USA (QS 311); University of Minnesota, USA (THE 101); University of Laval, Canada (THE 251-300); The University of Sydney, Australia (QS 19); Seoul National University, South Korea (QS 41) ...

This cooperation has strongly promoted the internationalization strategy of education to retain talents, retain good students, attract many foreign professors to Vietnam to teach, research and contribute to the country's education sector, contributing to the educational innovation associated with the country's socio-economic development at the lowest training cost.

“On the one hand, the school must improve the quality of training, so that students have enough capacity to acquire knowledge to participate in exchange courses. On the other hand, the school needs to have solutions to contribute to improving the status of education in the country, on par with the leading universities in the world.

When I came up with such a model, I realized that the position of Vietnamese education needs to be affirmed in the international market" - Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Truc Le shared.

The capacity and contributions of Associate Professor, Dr. Truc Le are closely linked to many achievements of the University of Economics - Vietnam National University, Hanoi in recent times.

In the past 3 years, from 2021 - 2023, Associate Professor Truc Le has received the following awards: National Emulation Fighter title (2021), Third Class Labor Medal (2022), and Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister (2023).

University of Economics, Vietnam National University, Hanoi has an extensive network of international partners.

Notably, in the period of 2021 - 2023, he was recognized for his outstanding achievements with Hanoi National University, for the first time bringing the three key fields of Economics, Business and Management Science of the country's education and training into the prestigious world rankings: QS ranked 451 - 500 and THE (Times Higher Education) ranked 501 - 600. This achievement has contributed to affirming Vietnam's training and education position in the international arena.

This is the first and only time that a public training institution with the Economics and Business sector in the country, Hanoi National University - University of Economics, has been honored in the World Rankings (Business - QS 2021) and (Economics and Business - THE 2022).

In addition to recognition and evaluation in the field of training and teaching, as Secretary of the Party Committee of the School and Vice President of the Vietnam - UK Friendship Association, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Truc Le has also oriented and directly directed the University of Economics to thoroughly grasp the Party and State's guidelines and policies in people's foreign affairs, applying the diplomatic ideology of "Vietnam's bamboo" in "educational diplomacy" when bringing the "knowledge diplomacy" model into research exchange activities, transfer and policy consulting through the successful organization of a series of Vietnam Economic Forums with countries around the world, which were highly appreciated by foreign senior leaders, Embassies and Ambassadors and recognized by Party and Government leaders for their achievements.

Through this series of Forums, Vietnamese experts have joined with world scientists to research and propose solutions to issues that all of humanity is concerned about such as climate change, low-carbon economy, energy security, food security, FTA agreements, EVFTA, UKVFTA, CPTPP, BRICS, etc. Attracting many professors from prestigious universities, international policy makers, and leading foreign experts not only supports consulting on socio-economic development policies for Vietnam but also helps to learn from our country's economic management experiences. They are an important "knowledge diplomacy" bridge that contributes to bringing the "Vietnamese economic model" to the world, affirming Vietnam's economic and geopolitical position among international friends, in the international value chain that Vietnam is aiming for.
