Growing up in a poor rural area, the teacher from Hai Phong describes himself as "a country bumpkin who loves to sing." His childhood, filled with working in the fields and nights listening to the strumming of guitars by the well under the moonlight, gradually ignited his love for music. Years of self-taught musical knowledge, acquired through informal learning from acquaintances, became the stepping stone to pursuing a career in the arts. After graduating from the Music Education program at the Central College of Music and Fine Arts Education (now the Central University of Arts Education) in 1992, Mr. Hao became a lecturer at the Central Kindergarten and Preschool Teacher Training High School, now the Central College of Education - Nha Trang. In later years, Mr. Hao continued his studies in Music Theory at the Hanoi Conservatory of Music (now the Vietnam National Academy of Music), and then earned a master's degree in Music Theory and History at the Vietnam National Academy of Music. Inspired by his lectures, many students have pursued artistic careers and achieved considerable success. In addition to classroom learning, students often encounter him at the school's cultural and artistic events, where he serves as a director or judge in traditional student arts programs, pedagogical competitions, and other school-wide events.
As the former Head of the Music Department and currently a lecturer in Music for Early Childhood Education students at the Central College of Pedagogy - Nha Trang, Mr. Hao has participated in numerous scientific research projects on music and composition. He is the principal investigator of three ministerial-level scientific projects: "Innovating teaching methods for Musical Instruments and Harmony based on the application of computer software"; "Studying the folk songs of the Raglai ethnic group in Khanh Hoa"; and "Designing teaching materials to support practical music instruction for Early Childhood Education students". He is also the principal investigator of two university-level scientific projects. Furthermore, he is the chief editor of music textbooks for grades 6, 7, 8, and 9; and the author of music textbooks for grades 11 and 12, part of the "Creative Horizons" series published by the Vietnam Education Publishing House. He is one of the authors of the three local education materials for Khanh Hoa province for grades 10, 11, and 12, as well as many other supplementary books.
What Professor Hao cherishes most are his studies on folk music, especially the music of the Raglai ethnic minority. His book, "Traditional Music of the Raglai People in Khanh Hoa," won the Vietnam Musicians Association Music Award in 2012. In addition, he has published numerous research papers on this topic in the Journal of Music Studies of the Vietnam National Academy of Music. Professor Hao is continuing his research on this issue for his doctoral dissertation. He believes that: "Only by connecting traditional music with the spirit of the times can folk music survive and develop sustainably. Therefore, in addition to my research, I always hope to find new materials to combine with the use of folk music in my compositions. Teachers and school are the main themes I focus on when composing."
For his contributions, Mr. Hao has received the title of Emulation Soldier at the ministerial level; numerous commendations from the Ministry of Education and Training and the Provincial People's Committee; music awards from the Vietnam Musicians Association; and provincial literary and artistic awards... In 2024, his research project "Music Practice Exercises for Early Childhood Education Students" won the Encouragement Prize at the Vietnam Musicians Association Music Awards.
