USA - A woman sold her house to buy a ticket and become a passenger on a 3-year round-the-world cruise. However, she was disillusioned because things did not go as planned.
Former flight attendant Meredith Shay (in Florida, USA) sold her house to take a 3-year trip around the world on a yacht, at a cost of more than 562,000 USD (about 14.2 billion VND).
However, her adventure did not end as expected.
In 2023, Meredith couldn't hide her excitement when she received the news that she would be one of about 1,000 passengers boarding the Life at Sea cruise ship for a three-year trip around the world.
According to the schedule, the cruise will take passengers through 7 continents, 135 countries, stop at 375 destinations and admire 13 wonders of the world.
"I love new experiences because it keeps me fresh. I've been looking for a cruise for about two years now. So when I heard about this round-the-world trip, I booked it right away," Meredith said.
After selling her house and most of her possessions, she prepared for her long trip. She looked forward to witnessing the majesty of the icebergs in Antarctica or soaking up the warm sunshine and clear blue waters of the Caribbean.
Meredith also looks forward to visiting bustling cities in North America, before crossing the Pacific to Tokyo (Japan), Seoul (South Korea), and then to the skyscrapers of Shanghai (China).
However, the first surprise came when the Life at Sea cruise ship announced that it would not depart from Miami, USA as planned but instead move to the Bahamas. Then, around November 2023, she continued to receive notice that the trip was canceled.
Vedat Ugurlu, a representative of the operating unit Life at Sea, announced the reason for the last-minute cancellation. Vedat said the company did not have enough financial capacity to handle this trip. The company refunded customers in 3 installments.
Meredith felt uncomfortable but she was not discouraged. She believed in the good and tried to see the positive side of life.
In December 2023, she announced plans to take another cruise through Antarctica, Patagonia, Argentina, as well as intending to fly to Saudi Arabia and Dubai (UAE).
In a recent interview, Meredith asserted: "I sold my house, cleaned out my storage, and am about to sell my car. But I am not a person living in poverty.
I threw myself a 12-hour party. And then told myself that I was free, I wasn't bound by anything."
