Ignoring the signs of a headache, the woman died of brain cancer

Headaches are a common ailment for many people, but ignoring the signs of headaches of Anca Molnar, 35 years old, a famous makeup artist from Romania is a regrettable case. She just passed away on the morning of June 11 after discovering brain cancer .

Anca ignored the severe headaches for a while.

Anca had been suffering from severe headaches for some time but initially ignored them. It was only when the pain became severe and affected her daily life that she went to the hospital.

At the hospital, after running tests, the doctors concluded that she had brain cancer. Initially, the doctors told her that there was not much they could do given the growth of the tumor. Then, Anca decided to fly to Türkiye for intensive chemotherapy and two brain surgeries.

However, the tumor continued to grow and Anca passed away a year after being diagnosed. Her sudden passing at such a young age left many friends and relatives in mourning.

How long can you live with brain cancer?

According to statistics from the American Cancer Society (American Cancer Society, 2015-2019):

The 5-year survival rate for brain cancer patients is nearly 36%, and the 10-year survival rate is over 30%.

The 5-year survival rate for patients under 15 years of age is about 75%. For patients aged 15-39, the 5-year survival rate is nearly 72%. For patients over 40, it is only about 21%.

According to statistics from the UK Cancer Research Institute (2013-2017), the 10-year survival rate for patients with primary brain cancer is assessed as follows: (5)

About 11.2% of patients diagnosed with brain cancer will survive the disease for 10 years or more.

About 40% of people diagnosed with brain cancer between the ages of 15 and 44 will survive their disease for 10 years or more.

About 2.2% of patients diagnosed with brain cancer between the ages of 65 and 74 will survive the disease for 10 years or more.

However, the prognosis of cancer patients also depends on many other factors such as age, health status, mental state, ability to respond to treatment...

Is brain cancer preventable?

There are currently no recommendations or preventive measures for brain cancer. However, patients will be advised to have regular general health check-ups or when they have suspicious symptoms such as: headache, vomiting, persistent nausea or sudden weakness, difficulty speaking, visual or hearing disturbances, etc.

Patients with other types of cancer (breast, lung, colorectal, etc.) should be screened for metastatic brain cancer when they have suspicious symptoms.

Nutrition for brain cancer patients

According to medical experts, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and positive thinking is an effective support method in cancer treatment.

During treatment, side effects of treatments (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, etc.) can cause changes in taste, loss of appetite, fatigue, weakness, etc., causing patients to eat poorly, leading to malnutrition.

Therefore, brain cancer patients need a scientific diet to support the treatment process, including:

- Eat on time, at the right meal. You should divide into 6-8 small meals a day (instead of just 3 main meals), each meal 2-3 hours apart.

- Eat slowly and chew food thoroughly. During meals, you can drink more water to soften the food and make swallowing easier.

- Be sure to include all food groups. Use nutritional supplements as advised by your doctor.

- Exercise regularly, appropriate to the patient's health condition.
