The Agricultural General Hospital has just reported on the spectacular comeback to save the life of a 30-year-old woman from Thanh Tri who was struck by lightning.
Early on the morning of June 5th, the Agricultural General Hospital received an emergency case: a man in a deep coma with cardiopulmonary arrest due to a lightning strike while working in the fields.

The patient's critical condition posed a major challenge for the medical team at the Agricultural General Hospital. Immediately upon admission, the patient received cardiopulmonary resuscitation and was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit for specialized treatment.
At one point, doctors predicted the patient's condition was critical, hoping for a miracle.
Thanks to the dedication, professionalism, and high sense of responsibility of the medical team, after many days of urgent and continuous treatment, the patient's condition gradually improved. Every small sign of recovery brought immense hope to the family and the treatment team.
After four days and nights of relentless fighting, a miracle occurred: the patient gradually regained consciousness, and bodily functions slowly returned to normal. Overwhelming joy flooded the patient's family and the medical team.
Previously, Associate Professor Ha Huu Tung, Director of the Agricultural General Hospital (Hanoi), stated that upon admission, the hospital mobilized all the most modern equipment such as ventilators, dialysis machines, and hypothermia devices to provide emergency care for the patient. Doctors applied hypothermia techniques to protect and improve central nervous system function in patients after cardiac arrest.
According to Mr. Tung's assessment, this was a case where the family provided excellent first aid. The patient suffered cardiac arrest immediately after being struck by lightning, but family members actively performed chest compressions and artificial respiration, giving the patient a chance to survive. If the first aid had been incorrect, and cardiac arrest had lasted too long, the doctors would not have been able to save the patient.
Every year, Vietnam records hundreds of cases of lightning strikes resulting in casualties. However, many people are still not fully aware of the dangers of lightning and the preventive measures.
According to medical experts, when encountering someone struck by lightning, if the victim is unconscious, check to see if they are still breathing. If they have stopped breathing, perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) immediately.
Step 1: Lay the victim on their back, with their neck fully extended, and loosen their clothing, belt, and tie.
Step 2: Perform external chest compressions by placing both hands on the middle of the chest and pressing down 3-5 cm at a frequency of approximately 100 times per minute, repeating 30 times.
Step 3: Mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Cover the victim's nose with your hand, seal your mouth around the victim's mouth, and blow a long breath before releasing to allow the victim to breathe normally. Repeat 2-3 times, then continue with chest compressions. Continue these first aid steps until medical personnel arrive. For young children, the first aid steps should be performed more slowly.
