(NLDO) - A new study suggests that the illumination of a world with a black hole moon is a sign of alien technology.
According to Science Alert, the above work comes from a scientist famous for his shocking arguments about alien civilizations - Professor Avi Loeb, Director of the Institute for Theory and Computation at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA), lecturer at Harvard University (USA).
A study published in the scientific journal Research Notes of the American Astronomical Society (RNAAS) argues for the existence of a type of small black hole, weighing only about 100 thousand tons, orbiting in low orbit around some cold exoplanets.
At that time, this black hole acts as a moon of that planet. This black hole is also a huge source of energy that people living on that planet can exploit.

This argument is based on the theory of "Hawking radiation" proposed by the famous theoretical physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking in 1975.
That theory suggests that black holes can emit photons, neutrinos, and some larger particles.
Since then, proposals to use black holes as energy sources have generally fallen into one of two groups.
On the one hand, exploit the angular momentum of accretion disks or capture the heat and energy produced by their hypervelocity jets. On the other hand, there is the possibility of injecting matter into black holes and exploiting the resulting Hawking radiation.
In his paper, Professor Loeb proposes how an advanced civilization could leverage the latter process by engineering an artificial black hole orbiting its home planet.
With a mass of just 100 thousand tons, this black hole is very small compared to the smallest natural black holes, stellar-mass black holes.
If left unchecked, this black hole moon would evaporate in just a year and a half through the emission of Hawking radiation.
However, it can be sustained by accumulating a relatively small amount of matter, about 2.2 kg. So as long as the aliens feed it something, it will last forever and provide them with an endless source of energy.
According to Professor Loeb, this black hole system is the most efficient engine in theory. Fuel is converted into energy with perfect efficiency of 100%, because the mass falling into the black hole will eventually escape as Hawking radiation.
The only other method of converting mass into radiation with 100% efficiency is matter-antimatter annihilation. However, this option would be much more difficult.
Since 1995, particle accelerators at CERN (France) have produced less than 10 nanograms of antimatter, just enough to power a 60-watt light bulb for four hours.
Therefore, a black hole moon may be the most efficient solution to provide enough energy for a civilization that is superior to the one on Earth.
It is clear that humanity today is struggling with the ever-increasing demand for energy due to the rapid development of technology.
Professor Loeb calls a civilization capable of creating and using a black hole moon a "Type II Civilization."
Another advantage is that black holes can use any form of matter as fuel, including any waste that civilizations produce. In this respect, a black hole engine would solve the waste problem of advanced civilizations while still providing an inexhaustible source of energy.
