After major US media outlets confirmed that Republican candidate Donald Trump won the November 5 presidential election, Timmy P., 32, a Vietnamese-American citizen, said he was very happy because his candidate won. Timmy P. has lived and worked in the US for nearly 10 years, currently living in Minnesota and working in the beauty industry. He shared that economic issues were the main reason he decided to vote for Mr. Trump. He said that in recent years, the economy has declined and inflation has increased, causing people's finances to tighten. As a working -class person with an average income, he hopes that Mr. Trump's economic policies will help the economy recover, especially since he comes from a business background. In addition, according to him, the lax immigration policy under President Joe Biden has allowed foreigners to immigrate en masse, affecting the jobs of Americans like him. He believes that the immigration tightening policy pursued by Mr. Trump will help protect the interests of American citizens first. He shared that his colleagues, who are working class, all support Mr. Trump. He hopes that Mr. Trump's upcoming term will help the US economy recover and grow again. Regarding the reason for not voting for candidate Kamala Harris, he said he is concerned that her immigration policy will likely remain the same as under Mr. Biden. In addition, Ms. Harris' welfare policy for low-income and poor people may not create more job demand to promote economic development. From California, Ms. Dung Hoang said that she is happy with the final election results with the victory belonging to former President Trump. Previously, she and her husband voted to support him. Talking about her expectations for his 4-year term from next year, Ms. Dung said she only hopes "he will help the US economy grow and reduce the tax burden". However, Ms. Dung also added that all decisions are not only up to the president, but also the entire state apparatus behind it. "First of all, thanks to his election as president, the stock market has reached a new peak. Hopefully, it will continue like that," Ms. Dung said. She also hopes that the new president of the United States will control the problem of illegal immigration well. In Torrance, California, Ms. Vu Thi Hai Ha shared that she felt happy when Republican candidate Donald Trump won the election. Because she had just taken the citizenship test, she was not eligible to vote in the 2024 election, but in her family, her husband voted directly. Ms. Ha said that California is a stronghold state of the Democratic Party, so the campaign activities of the two candidates were not as exciting as some other battleground states. However, according to personal observations, this year she saw many people in the area where she lives openly supporting Mr. Trump when they hung flags and banners with his image on their cars. Ms. Ha said she has always supported Mr. Trump. According to Ms. Ha, Mr. Trump is a decisive politician who can keep his promises, does what he says and gives her the feeling that he prioritizes protecting the interests of the people, instead of big businesses. In the coming years, Ms. Ha plans to settle permanently in the US, so she hopes that in the new term, Mr. Trump's administration will help the US economy to thrive even more, because this is a topic that she and her family are very interested in.
